Dear Mr.
We receive your complaint through the Customer Contact Centre at Amsterdam Airport.
Your complaint contains the following elements:
· You were refused by the KLM on a flight to Zagreb.
· You have been arrested following an incident and held in a cell with no windows and toilet facilities.
· After release you did not get any help or information.
Our registration system shows that you were warned first sent away, because you caused am inconvenience at a transfer desk. You complied to this request.
However, after some time you got back to the transfer desk and again caused an inconvenience. Furthermore, you told the staff that they acted likt Nazis. We also noticed that you had consumed excessive amounts of alcohol. Therefore my colleagues arrested you and you were taken in for questioning.
You will understand that you were, concerning the facts, legally deprived of your liberty.
With regard to the elements of the complaint:
· Refusing to take you on a flight is the responsibility of the carrier, in this case the KLM. Therefore you must sent your complaint to them.
· Our cells are indeed not provided with windows, clear security reasons, they meet the specified rules. Also regarding the toilet facilities, which are outside the cell. You can use them onrequest.
· After release my colleagues, referred you for information to employees of the airport. If are not sufficiently informed by them, you should take your complaint to them.
We trust to have informed you sufficiently. When you agree with our explanation please send us a written reply within 14 days. Also when you not agree we need a written reply within 14 days.
Wiht kind regard,
And my reply,
I officially disagree. I was not belligerent initially, I feel that I was targeted and discriminated against by an islamic KLM employee who felt he could stick it to an American tourist. I work in the travel industry and heard of stories of drunken and rowdy Russians being allowed on planes, so yes I believe that I was targeted by that islamic KLM gate agent.
I had left Murphy's pub on good terms and was not accosted by anybody, it was only at the transfer gate that I had trouble. Also I was at Schiphol when the security was at the gate and I couldn't sit by my gate and was basically directed towards Murphy's Pub because of lack of seats to wait for my flight.
Yes, I was directed to an air side hotel after my release but there were no rooms, but I was offered a welcome free shower. After that I was left to fend for myself the rest of the night with no help. I was even served a Heineken at a land side terminal bar, which I still have the receipt. And how did I get to that land side bar, I was let through by an unsecured door by a Dutch security person.
All in all, I felt that I was targeted because of my nationality and religion and that turned my vacation into a nightmare. There is a reason why Donald Trump and Geert Wilders are so popular. Also if the KLM islamic gate agent hadn't been so severely hostile to me and had offered hotel options this may have not had happened, but he had total hate in his eyes(like a nazi), and I fought back rhetorically, and I was thrown in the Dutch klink(jail).
I am not seeking, a huge settlement, like many do, and there are many US TV commercials here of unsavory lawyers, but I want to settle this without lawyers and make this correct, since I did nothing wrong.
I would like to make it to Croatia, someday, but I was wronged at Schiphol, for doing nothing wrong, except maybe drinking your national drink, Heineken(where there are signs at every corner at Schiphol).
Someday I will get to Croatia, but never through Amsterdam Schiphol.
The world of logic and clear thinking with common courtesy and understanding .... no longer exists
It ain't your father's SAAB
(Something An Asshole Bought)
Not at all disputing your experience, but compared to any other major airport in Europe Schiphol has always been my favorite. Only complaint has been with an odd lack of non-stop connections to some of the other major cities. Have had to fly via Copenhagen to get to Milan. There are three very basic but clean and economical (less than $100 a night) Accor Group hotels five minutes away by free shuttle. If they were all full then lots of people must have been stranded that night.
Meh.
He would have gotten the same treatment here in the USA by TSA goons.
Don’t be a drunken A-hole in airports and life goes easier.
That’s why they call it Holeland.
Those bastards killed our elm trees!
I got into a huge row at schiphol after my flight was cancelled.
The transfer desk guy hand wrote a boarding pass and I wanted something more formal!!!!
I was near shouting at him after 10-15 minutes. Another transfer desk guy came around the desk and I thought I was about to get in a fist fight.
But he quietly said, “I know this looks like we are idiots writing out boarding passes but it will work. Trust me here.”
Defused, I went to my new gate and low and behold, it worked and the gate agents were told in advance to assure me all was OK.
Not sure what caused your issue but I didn’t see the acidity you saw!
My rule of thumb, never travel through those enemy zones unless I have the USMC on my flanks and the Navy, Army and Air Force on speed dial.
Couldn’t be worse than Atlanta-Hartsfield, everybody there has an attitude.
Interestingly enough I just got back from Croatia last week. We flew to Zagreb through Amsterdam with out issue, except for Croatia Airlines losing our luggage. I don’t really understand what happened to you- where do you live? how did you get to Amsterdam? How did you get home? And why didn’t you just book a different flight to Zagreb?
Typically causing any disturbance in an airport after drinking will lead to undesirable outcomes.
If the weather is fair..go by air but next time take the train...The Orient Express.
The islamic KLM guy, IMO, had total hate in his eyes, and he called the police.
I was never charged with anything.
I’m a life-long travel industry employee, have dealt with every kind of human idiot that you can possibly imagine in my career, and even I have a story about getting angry at Schipol...
I went through DFW and I wasn’t disruptive. It was the islamic guy at the transfer desk who had hatred in his eyes.
You keep saying you “feel” things are done to you. That says that you might have gotten belligerent because you felt put out. When feelings control actions bad things can happen. Try thinking instead.
“Killed our elm trees”
Ha! That’s funny to me because I was loading some elm logs into my firewood stack yesterday, and started wondering about Dutch Elm Disease, so I looked it up on Wikipedia. It said they think it started in Asia, but it was a load of Rock Elm logs sent from North America (didn’t say if it was USA or Canada) to Europe that killed all their trees. Some Dutch scientist discovered what it was, so they named the disease after his country, which in retrospect seems like a rude thing to do.
What did you do then? Cancel your vacation and go back to Dallas? Getting to Europe is the expensive part. Once you were there you could have found dozens of flights pretty cheap to Zagreb.
I learned long ago that when traveling by air it is best to shut up, don’t complain, answer every re-routed suitcase, delay and cancelled flight with, “Thank you sir. May I have another?”
It is best to blend in with the rest of the cattle.
And the fewer other people there, the better. Basically, private beach house (Gulf coast) or mountain cabin.
