Someday I will get to Croatia, but never through Amsterdam Schiphol.
The world of logic and clear thinking with common courtesy and understanding .... no longer exists
It ain't your father's SAAB
(Something An Asshole Bought)
Not at all disputing your experience, but compared to any other major airport in Europe Schiphol has always been my favorite. Only complaint has been with an odd lack of non-stop connections to some of the other major cities. Have had to fly via Copenhagen to get to Milan. There are three very basic but clean and economical (less than $100 a night) Accor Group hotels five minutes away by free shuttle. If they were all full then lots of people must have been stranded that night.
Meh.
He would have gotten the same treatment here in the USA by TSA goons.
Don’t be a drunken A-hole in airports and life goes easier.
Those bastards killed our elm trees!
I got into a huge row at schiphol after my flight was cancelled.
The transfer desk guy hand wrote a boarding pass and I wanted something more formal!!!!
I was near shouting at him after 10-15 minutes. Another transfer desk guy came around the desk and I thought I was about to get in a fist fight.
But he quietly said, “I know this looks like we are idiots writing out boarding passes but it will work. Trust me here.”
Defused, I went to my new gate and low and behold, it worked and the gate agents were told in advance to assure me all was OK.
Not sure what caused your issue but I didn’t see the acidity you saw!
My rule of thumb, never travel through those enemy zones unless I have the USMC on my flanks and the Navy, Army and Air Force on speed dial.
Interestingly enough I just got back from Croatia last week. We flew to Zagreb through Amsterdam with out issue, except for Croatia Airlines losing our luggage. I don’t really understand what happened to you- where do you live? how did you get to Amsterdam? How did you get home? And why didn’t you just book a different flight to Zagreb?
Typically causing any disturbance in an airport after drinking will lead to undesirable outcomes.
If the weather is fair..go by air but next time take the train...The Orient Express.
I learned long ago that when traveling by air it is best to shut up, don’t complain, answer every re-routed suitcase, delay and cancelled flight with, “Thank you sir. May I have another?”
It is best to blend in with the rest of the cattle.
And the fewer other people there, the better. Basically, private beach house (Gulf coast) or mountain cabin.
I’m quite certain you did absolutely nothing wrong (””dindo nuffin”), and were targeted only because of your race. I am forwarding this thread to the national action network, ATTN: Rev. Al, for immediate action. Good luck!
Lawyer up. Please.
You need to take a chill pill when traveling. An extra night in Amsterdam sounds like fun if you just go with the flow.
Wow weird, because I’ve never had any awful experiences with Schiphol.
I hope you get to visit Croatia, it’s a beautiful and charming country....if you get there, have a look at Slovenia also, very lovely.
I've left many airport pubs on good terms once paying my bill.....
Using common sense and logic, it appears to me your problem WAS excessive alcohol consumption and since you provide no counter argument from the agencies involved, I deem you guilty!
Alcohol is apparently not your friend.......
Threaten to go public with it in a major way. Come up with a list of consumer/travel websites, blogs and such, with the goal of spreading your story far and wide and across the globe.
Then do it. And don't plan on returning because you'll probably end up on a hit list. But at least you'd get some satisfaction.
“I feel that I was targeted and discriminated against by an islamic KLM employee”
Sorry, but do you SERIOUSLY BELIEVE that there are any more native-Dutch working in front-line positions at KLM?
Advice from a frequent traveler, ignore your temper and smother with kindness, a smile and even compliment the biggest jerk/agent in the world. TMI: Once in AMS (Schiphol) on time for my hour flight to Brussels on what was Sabena (Such A Bad Experience Never Again airlines) after waiting 10 minutes in one of two long lines, as I approached the agent she said cheerily "be right back," returned 10+ minutes later, looked at my ticket and said nastily "You are too late to be boarded, next". My guess is she had a fight with her husband during the break, or other bad news - anyway, I took a train. Taking the escalator down a few floors to the AMS train depot, boarded the first to Brussels sans ticket. I told the conductor my story and he asked if I had 5 EU which I'm sure never made it to the railway. We've all had it happen.
Major faux pas!
It's like going to Sbarro's for a slice of pizza when you are in Manhattan. Don't be that guy!
