The Interior Department said Tuesday that the greater sage grouse, a ground-dwelling bird whose vast range spans 11 Western states, does not need federal protections
...
The fight over whether to list the bird as endangered or threatened recalled the battle over the spotted owl 25 years ago, where federal protection greatly impeded the logging economy.

House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Rob Bishop said Tuesday's announcement was a "cynical ploy" intended to mask the fact that the Obama administration has imposed limits on development across the West. Bishop was referring to changes in government policies guiding lands controlled by the U.S. Forest Service and Interior's Bureau of Land Management.
"Do not be fooled," the Utah Republican said in a statement. "With the stroke of a pen, the Obama administration's oppressive land management plan is the same thing as a listing" under the Endangered Species Act.

I think we won one!!!!!
“could help defuse a potential political liability for Democrats heading into the 2016 election”
and that’s the name of that tune.
Then there’s the stupid frog...and the snail darter....and that damn owl. These great protectors are a bunch of manipulative a****.
Assets belong to the states. They've been robbed for years.
And get rid of the EPA.
Isn’t a great sage grouse called a curmudgeon?
Turned out the Barred Owl was killing off the Spotted Owl and logging wasn’t the problem.
Ten 4!!!
Been yelling this for years. Even on here, during the NV ranchers battles, many here spouted that, while they were for the constitution, they claimed that the federal government controlled/owned all that land and that the states had no right to any of it.
Even when asked to show where in the hell in the constitution does it say the federal government had any right to do so.
There are socialist who get onto this site to create mayhem.
Yes.
>> Turned out the Barred Owl was killing off the Spotted Owl and logging wasnt the problem.
Yes, but the facts didn’t fit the agenda.
spotted owl 25 years ago, where federal protection greatly impeded the logging economy.
That there is an hilarious understatement. If you're ever in Oregon just ask a logger how it affected their livelihood, that is if you can find even one to ask.
Thanks for the ping.
Utahs Bishop says sage grouse plan is the same thing as a listing under Endangered Species Act .. the announcement is intended to mask the fact that the Obama administration has imposed limits on development across the West.
An aide to Interior Secretary Sally Jewell said the administration is providing grouse habitat protections on 67 million acres of federal lands, including 12 million acres where strict limits on oil and gas limits will be enforced.
The administration also is proposing to withdraw mining claims on 10 million acres considered key grouse habitat.
Under Tuesday’s announcement, sales of oil and gas leases that were previously deferred on more than 8 million acres will undergo a 90-day review

Rob Bishop nailed it.

Thanks for the ping! And for the record, I finally saw a greater sage-grouse this season. About three weeks ago, I got close to a female at 9,100 ft. in a mountain range in western Nevada. Good times were had by all. Ha!
"Hey Pick, pass that flask over this-a-way!"
