U.S. Soldiers Told to Ignore Afghan Allies’ Abuse of Boys
The New York Times ^ | 20 Sept 2015 | Joseph Goldstein

Posted on 09/20/2015 11:28:19 AM PDT by Theoria

In his last phone call home, Lance Cpl. Gregory Buckley Jr. told his father what was troubling him: From his bunk in southern Afghanistan, he could hear Afghan police officers sexually abusing boys they had brought to the base.

“At night we can hear them screaming, but we’re not allowed to do anything about it,” the Marine’s father, Gregory Buckley Sr., recalled his son telling him before he was shot to death at the base in 2012. He urged his son to tell his superiors. “My son said that his officers told him to look the other way because it’s their culture.”

Rampant sexual abuse of children has long been a problem in Afghanistan, particularly among armed commanders who dominate much of the rural landscape and can bully the population. The practice is called bacha bazi, literally “boy play,” and American soldiers and Marines have been instructed not to intervene — in some cases, not even when their Afghan allies have abused boys on military bases, according to interviews and court records.

The policy has endured as American forces have recruited and organized Afghan militia to help hold territory against the Taliban. But soldiers and Marines have been increasingly troubled that instead of weeding out pedophiles, the American military was arming them in some cases and placing them as the commanders of villages — and doing little when they began abusing children.

“The reason we were here is because we heard the terrible things the Taliban were doing to people, how they were taking away human rights,” said Dan Quinn, a former Special Forces captain who beat up an American-backed militia commander for keeping a boy chained to his bed as a sex slave.

It’s part of our culture to protect defenseless children... How come these monsters get to keep their ‘culture’ and we have to abandon ours?

One more reason to leave the hellhole to the losers - or to ISIS - or the Russians...

Really, WHAT are we ‘protecting’ over there? Rape rights?

Why do these sewer-maggots make their women wear trash bags to keep them from raping all of them? Guess maybe they don’t *want* to look at them.

I’m so sick of Muslims talking, walking, everythinging.. wish this was all just a bad dream.

I wish this was all a bad dream too. Muslim men should have their eyes put out rather then having women dress in what are essentially body bags.

“Really, WHAT are we ‘protecting’ over there? Rape rights?”

Ya, this is just so sick.

After 9/11 I wouldn’t have been too upset if we had turned that whole region into the largest glass manufacturing facility in the world. We had the moral high ground, and I don’t think the world would have been too upset had we done it.

We should have still imposed our legal righteousness on them. Their backward culture needs to be torn asunder.

Take the famous reply by General Napier, the British officer, in response to the Indian practice of burning widows, ‘suttee’, “You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”

The real problem here is that we have an islamist administration occupying our White House actively enabling the practice of muslim pedophelia by prohibiting our military from stopping it.

Spring loaded to be offended, I see.

Believe it or not I never made the connection when typing it. Ray reference was about being blind, the "nuffin" was just me... but, hey I'm white so I must be racist.

Or this Napier line, which applies to Mexico...

so perverse is mankind that every nationality prefers to be misgoverned by its own people than to be well ruled by another

Thank you for sharing ... I also remember when people of class ran our country... People who never would have accepted the rape of a child because of 'culture'... My theory is the people of DC can put on finery and eat in the right restaurants but they can't wash off the stink of being tacky lowlifes... this is more proof.

That’s what I was thinking. But the NYT probably thinks their culture is just fine and doesn’t think any readers may think otherwise.

‘____________islamist administration occupying our White House____________’

Shocking how easily we say this - it’s been a nightmare since Odumbo desecrated the/our White House.

In America, we are fundamentally transforming our culture. Bake the cake.

Kenyan culture rejects homosexuality. Obama travels to Kenya and orders them to change their culture.

In Afghanistan, child rape is part of the culture. American soldiers attempting to protect children are silenced, purged from service, murdered.

Do we not see where this is headed?

I have now come to the conclusion that we, as Americans, have long been blissfully unaware of the terrible cultural practices that continue to take place in this world.

We are so fortunate to be here. So much of the world is a cesspool and will continue to be so. We cannot fix everything as much as we desperately wish that we could.
