Donald Trump unexpectedly announced Friday that he would skip a major Republican gathering to be held later in the day in South Carolina due to an unidentified “significant business transaction.”

Trump was one of 11 GOP presidential candidates slated to speak at the Heritage Action Presidential Forum at an arena in Greenville. The event is co-sponsored by two of the biggest names in South Carolina GOP politics: Gov. Nikki Haley and former Sen. Jim DeMint.

Trump’s campaign said his undisclosed transaction “was expected to close Thursday” but a delay made him unable to attend. “He sends his regrets,” the campaign said in a statement.

So the Prime Minister of Israel calls but a big business decision is needed which President, which does he do?

If he's elected, he will be required to turn over all his business activities to others and he'll devote all his attention to the POTUS job. That's how it works.

It will be a better forum without Trump distracting from Cruz.

It should be better without the rest of them trying to score cheap shots on Trump. If they were smart, they would ditch the attacks and tell us why we should vote for them.

Drop the "I did this" and "I did that" in the past and talk specifically about how they are going to unplug the cesspool in Washington.

Why isn’t Donald Trump powerful enough to have his business meeting postponed for an hour or two so that he can attend this important Republican event in South Carolina?

Apparently, there is someone even more powerful than Donald Trump.

Mr. Trump is not on the public dole. He has business concerns and he is not obligated to attend any debate or forum. It is at his own risk that he does so, so why the concern?

What about current politicians that are running? Should they neglect to perform their duties during the campaign?

You asked if Trump was the only one attracting enough attention.

You truncated my question, twice now, and changed my meaning in two of your posts, as you and any FReeper can read. (It stays on the server.) This makes twice in a row on this thread you have tried to mislead...who? Me? Other readers?

You are deliberately lying this time which makes you...dishonest twice over.

Over and out, napscoordinator. You lie!

Open your friggin' eyes, for crying out loud.

And what is it you wish FReepers to see regarding Trump's cancellation of today's event? You've said he is not truthful regarding his reasons for skipping this six-hour event tonight. What is his reason then?

You have a good point. Now media is going on and on about him not attending the event and about what “he didn’t say.” Just trivial points. But it kills time and takes attention away from Cruz and Walker.

It is my understanding he had said he was backing out more than a week ago.

I thought Trump looked like he was getting sick. He has been going nonstop all week, and when I saw him on TV last night in NH I told my friend Trump is getting sick, and he needs to take a few days off. I wasn’t surprised to hear he canceled today.

Totally agree. I amazes me how many people are experts on this forum who know what Trump should do.

You are assuming all these things without having a clue as to what the specifics are!

Good point. Nikki Haley is lower than pond scum and should be avoided at all costs. Her and her Judas (Limpsey Graham) are a stain on the great state of SC.

I just heard the former governor of Florida state that during his eight years as Governor, he consistently challenged the order of things, the establishment. Paraphrasing him.

I had to tune out for a little while.

Wake me up when September ends.

He realizes he stepped on his foreskin and needs to lay low for a bit....quite simple, really.

Yeah, you've posted that at least twice today regarding Trump. My guess is you think it's clever.

Isn’t it time for him to put his campaign above his business? He has to hand it all off before being sworn in, right, so why not get his replacements handling this stuff for him now? Is he even running any TV ads to counter the assault from Bush and others? If he’s going to be this much of a tightwad and not outspend his opponents at every step, he’s going to lose.

It's still very early in the game. Why waste money on paid advertising when he doesn't need to? Not attending this forum is likely a strategic move.
