Rarely and perhaps not in modern times has a presidential campaign more resembled the classic 1957 film, "A Face in the Crowd." Written by Budd Schulberg and starring Andy Griffith, Patricia Neal and Walter Matthau, the storyline follows an Arkansas hayseed named Larry "Lonesome" Rhodes (Griffith), whom Marcia Jeffries (Neal) discovers in a county jail.
Jeffries has a local radio show on which she interviews interesting characters. She finds Rhodes irresistible and puts him on the air. Rhodes becomes a sensation, eventually climbing the ladder to his own network TV show and then, as politicians approach him for endorsements, a self-described kingmaker.
I think of Rhodes when I watch Donald Trump. The two have much in common. Rhodes' view of women seems to mirror Mr. Trump's. In one scene, Rhodes says, "A guitar beats a woman every time." He marries more than once and has several affairs during and in between those marriages.
As he becomes intoxicated with a beverage clearly not the milk of human kindness, Rhodes brags: "I'm not just an entertainer. I'm an influence, a wielder of opinion, a force a force!"

It’s not working!
Shades of 1980. Remember how they used to make fun of Reagan because he co-starred with a chimp?

Trump isn't Lonesome Rhodes. That was clearly Bill Clinton.
Bedtime for Bonzo. Good catch.
its getting to be pathetic
Trump is no Andy Griffith....
Some FReeper with TDS made this comparison about two months ago. Is Cal Thomas resorting to stealing material from FReepers now?
Not Cal Thomas? Please - no - this is getting ridiculous. I
I love it, all the roaches are coming out of the woodwork. It is like they are proving what he is saying, we really do have an establishment that only looks out for itself. Remember the venerable phrase *inside the beltway*. Well, it seems that all of the *inside the beltway* people were talking about themselves.
Trump is Bulworth.
Rhodes is supposed to be Arthur Godfry and even that was a stretch, back in the '50s! And anyone who makes this claim either hasn't seen the movie lately, or ever!
Even Slick Willie Clinton was never "Lonesome"; he was/still is Huey Long!
This is neither here nor there, but A Face in the Crowd, directed (I think) by Elia Kazan, was a very good movie. Andy Griffith had guts to play that part, as many actors are too vain to play unattractive — I mean unattractive on the inside — characters.
Looks like he’d fit right at the private sentate dining room.
Cal Thomas is an Evangelical, and VP of the Moral Majority..?!

That very well may have been yours truly. Not only did I question whether Donald Trump was stringing us along like Lonesome Rhodes but I also put forth the notion that a Baba Booey! from him was around the corner as well. I was not against Trump at the time but wasn't convinced that he was real deal.
For me. times have changed since that post, available here, the one you might be referring to. I was convinced to change my tune because of what Boss Jim has stated in this forum as well as Governor Palin's and Senator Cruz's support. My posts over the past few weeks show a marked turnabout in my estimation of the man and frequently end with this shout:
