GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump poked at rival Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Twitter on Saturday, calling him a lightweight who shouldnt be allowed in Wednesdays CNN presidential debate.
Trump needled Paul in a series of tweets:
(see below)
Trumps shots came hours after Paul joked about the GOP frontrunner in an interview with Politico. I think I was a little too easy on Donald Trump last time, Paul said in the interview, referencing a heated exchange the two had in an August Fox News presidential debate. Thats given in jest," he added.
Later in the interview, Paul unfavorably compared Trump to Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who suspended his presidential bid Friday.
You have a long-term governor from a large conservative state leaving the field, and meanwhile, the media continues to reinforce a celebrity that really doesnt have qualifications for office and in fact would alarm me if he were in charge of our nuclear weapons, Paul said.
So, really, I think its a serious versus the unserious. And there is a danger that if we continue to laud so much attention on basically someone whose level of discourse is that of junior high, I think theres a problem, theres a great risk for the country.
I know. I don’t leave out Ted Cruz. Even though I like him and could vote for him, I am very troubled by his vote on Corker’s bill, and I am not convinced by his explanation for that vote.
It was an incredibly stupid thing to do.
The only person who had the balls to not vote for this outrage was Tom Cotton, so repsect to him.
Donald pls dont self-destruct until Yeb, Marco, Ben & Carly have dropped out.
***********************
You left out Scott, Mike, John, Rick and Chris.
Exactly—Paul “later said” is meant to jumble the timeline at Trump’s expense.
Why is it better to have career politicians in charge of nuclear weapons?
Yes, Paul said, among other things, that Trump brings to the table a middle school level of discourse.
And Trump responded, as he does, with personal insults.....perfectly proving Paul's point.
Oh, but look at who I'm responding to - someone who has said, on the record, that it doesn't matter what Trump says or does, you'll support him regardless. Go on, then, Trumpette - blindly support your Dear Leader. That always works out well.
It is nothing but a ruse to hide a campaign which is actually (outside of immigration) pretty much the same positions as Rudy Guliani.
Too bad these Trumpets can't or won't recognize trojan horses.
What I find interesting is the recent swath of pro Trump pieces hitting his oppnonents shoved on us by lefty sources like the Hill, or Politico. Not MSM.
Tis’ so nice to have an alpha male in the race. Go Trump!
Trump speaks truth.
I’m not a big fan of Rand’s, but I don’t see how Trump destroying other candidates in the GOP outside of Jeb! helps him much. Just stick to the issues and let the rest sort itself out.
Be fair, they haven’t a lot to work with. Just a sniveling little jealous child.
Rick’s out.
Rand started it, Trump responded. Too bad, so sad.
I understand that Rand started it, but I think Trump’s principal of getting even at any cost is going to cost him one day. Maybe Trump should just ignore Rand or respond in a way that won’t alienate Rand’s supporters.
Rand should know by now that he sore loser demeanor makes him look bad.
That is what his supporters should be upset about.
Paul has a very petty, loose cannon attitude. His hand on the button scares me far more than Trumps.
Just as importantly I'm AGAINST the GOP.
“...the media continues to reinforce a celebrity that really doesnt have qualifications for office”
Paul was placed in office by a few hundred thousand voters in Kentucky, the same ones who gave us McConnell. He has been in office for three and one half years. How does that give him qualifications for the presidency, for handling our nuclear responsibilities, more so than Trump? His whine about Trump’s “celebrity” is getting tedious. Trump has celebrity because of the causes he champions, Paul, you twerp.
