WAPO: TRUMP, SESSIONS TO THWART GOP ON OBAMA TPP
breitbart ^ | 11 Sep 2015 | BREITBART NEWS

Posted on 09/11/2015 5:27:02 PM PDT by BlackFemaleArmyColonel

So you think Donald Trump’s demagoguery on immigration has created problems for the other GOP candidates? Well, another very ripe opportunity for Trump to make his GOP rivals even more miserable may be lurking right around the corner, and it could expose the same sort of schism between GOP elites and GOP voters that Trump’s forays into immigration policy have. I’m talking about the massive global trade deal called the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Some time in the next six months — in late 2015 or in early 2016 — the participating nations may finally reach a deal on the TPP. That may well come just when the GOP primaries are heating up. Virtually all of the major GOP presidential candidates, including Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), all support the TPP, as do Republican Congressional leaders. But, in a little noticed move a few days ago, Trump signaled that he might be headed in a very different direction on the TPP soon enough. After his terrific and wonderful rally outside the Capitol the other day, Trump met with Senator Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), and both men enthusiastically recounted that they had had a good conversation about immigration and …. trade. Said Trump: “The meeting was great!” Sessions is a leading opponent of the TPP. He has warned that the TPP could harm American workers and allow China to join the deal later without the approval of the U.S. Congress; he has also said that it won’t do anything to counter Chinese currency manipulation and could facilitate the flow of “foreign workers” into the United States.

Front-runner Donald Trump’s popularity WRT illegal immigration has created problems for his GOP running mates---sinking most of them into ignominious single-digit territory.

But the issue of trade is Trump's winning card. Trump has been consistent in saying US trade deals are ruining our nation.

FOR STARTERS PONDER THIS Obama calls the TPP deal "central" to his second-term legacy, as well as to his "foreign policy" and "economic" agendas.

That's why Trump's trade stance is a winning issue.

He can point out that virtually all his Republican opponents including Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, Ted Cruz, and Sen. Marco Rubio, as well as Republican Congressional leaders, all support TPP.

"PLAY THE TRUMP CARD DONALD:" These Republicans are all supporting Obama's "legacy".

I agree. Conservatives several decades ago were sold a Brooklyn Bridge by the propaganda of the Wall St establishment globalist elites. Free trade sounded good just as do free markets.

That said we don’t have free trade any more than we have free market capitalism. We have unfair trade where slave labor competes with American labor. We have crony capitalism where crooked politicians bail out banks and build stadiums for their pals. The taxpayers are put on the hook where gains are privatized and losses socialized.

We once had a tariff system in America that encouraged those foreign businesses that wanted to sell into our market to manufacture in USA. Then the bankers & ever corrupt pols connived to give us a Federal Reserve and the income tax. The long term decline of an indebted USA with ever reduced sovereigny due to entangling alliances was put into place.

Thank you. It's wonderful and very encouraging to see so many not buying into what has clearly become an economic death trap for middle America.

Those attempting to sell these blatant glaring lies are the same types that would assure us importing tens of millions of legal and illegal foreigners are good for middle America.

This "business as usual" vicious circle lines the pockets of the insiders, extortionist, lobbyist and wealthy influence peddlers carrying truck loads of cash for buying off political candidates. It's the biggest con-job in history.

We need dramatic changes across the board. We better get this right and do it soon.

NO, Cruz voted against TPA (Fast Track Authority). The vote on TPP has not come up yet, the Agreement has not been completed, but I am confident Cruz will Not support it.

Trans Pacific Trade Agreement (Obamatrade)which has not even been completed yet, much less voted on. Some folks just can’t get the difference between TPA, which Cruz voted against, and TPP which should be coming up in a few months. Cruz will vote against it, too.

Come on folks. NOBODY has voted on TPP yet. The agreement has not even been completed. Cruz voted Against TPA, which gave Obama Fast Track Authority.

There will not be a vote until the Agreement is made public for 60 days after it is completed, probably within a few months. Cruz will vote against it.

Correction. When the final vote came up on TPA, Cruz voted AGAINST it.

Nope, Cruz voted Against TPA in the final vote. TPP has not been completed, much less voted on.

I guess you missed the part where Cruz and Sessions consulted on and drew up an Amendment to TPA that would have neutralized any immigration issues. Of course, McConnell never allowed it to come up for a vote.

Cruz voted Against TPA on the final vote. Not only did McConnell do some back room deals Cruz didn’t like, but he excluded the language on immigration that Cruz and Sessions wanted to be included.

TPP has not been voted on yet. The TPP Agreement has not been completed. When it is, it cannot be voted on until it has been public for 60 days. BTW, Cruz voted against TPA in the final vote.

How did we get back to all this disinformation? How is it that folks don’t know that TPP is not completed, much less been voted on.

Cruz voted against TPA in the final vote, but still all this disinformation abounds.

Agree. And the son of someone who fled communism going to pay his respects at the funeral of a communism-supporting African terrorist had me shaking my head in wonder as to his judgement or thinking.

Nelson Mandela was in jail for a bombing campaign, not for refusing to give up his seat and go to the back of the bus when tired. You can also find him singing ‘Bring me my machine gun’, an ANC song. Africa Overland was a weapons smuggling operation that Mandela continued even after both sides, the ANC and the apartheid government, agreed to a peaceful transition to what South Africa is today. Cruz flew to Africa to pay respects at his funeral. Mandela was a very close ally of the Communist Party of South Africa. When Mandela’s ANC was elected to power in 1994, it was in coalition with the CPSA.

Did Cruz go on his own or part of a government coalition?
