So you think Donald Trumps demagoguery on immigration has created problems for the other GOP candidates? Well, another very ripe opportunity for Trump to make his GOP rivals even more miserable may be lurking right around the corner, and it could expose the same sort of schism between GOP elites and GOP voters that Trumps forays into immigration policy have. Im talking about the massive global trade deal called the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Some time in the next six months in late 2015 or in early 2016 the participating nations may finally reach a deal on the TPP. That may well come just when the GOP primaries are heating up. Virtually all of the major GOP presidential candidates, including Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), all support the TPP, as do Republican Congressional leaders. But, in a little noticed move a few days ago, Trump signaled that he might be headed in a very different direction on the TPP soon enough. After his terrific and wonderful rally outside the Capitol the other day, Trump met with Senator Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), and both men enthusiastically recounted that they had had a good conversation about immigration and
. trade. Said Trump: The meeting was great! Sessions is a leading opponent of the TPP. He has warned that the TPP could harm American workers and allow China to join the deal later without the approval of the U.S. Congress; he has also said that it wont do anything to counter Chinese currency manipulation and could facilitate the flow of foreign workers into the United States.

Where do you get this nonsense from? Trump?
Well, I am not going to argue that...TPP has not been made public, and Cruz has demanded it be released..
I don’t know what’s in it...
He turned on it, largely because McConnell lied to him at a meeting. I think we all remember the sparks that flew over that...You can go back and read what was said, but it tore a rift between Cruz and McConnell that will never heal.
Sorry, TPA under Obama was an awful deal from the start and Cruz was insane to sign on to it. The McConnell lied to me is just CYA BS. Cruz was all in on enabling Obama’s secret trade deals until the backlash hit him.
Lied about what?
I totally agree with the entirety of your post.
Cruz was in favor of the Obama enabling TPA because has a weak spot for “free trade”, IMO. That might also explains his crazy tripling of H-1B visas position.
Those both are conservative positions, I was mocking SaxxonWoods for not questioning if Trump has conservative positions.
TPA only gave away the rights to amend the legislation. It’s been a very common practice, however, the BS McConnell layed on Cruz and some others to get them to support it, was way out of line.
Having said that, regardless of the outcome of the vote, and cruz’s yea meant nothing to the outcome, the trade deals that fall under TPA still have to pass the Senate and the democrats have been real nervous about them.
In the end, McConnell’s lie and cruz’s vote, did not pass the TPA or any other trade legislation. It only set the senate rules. Those rules are not like the Iran deal with the one exception that they can’t amend, but non amendment clauses in senate rules are as common as apples.
I would not call his positions weak. But he is a free trader, as am I. The H1B position is a old one. I think he should have reassessed that position before he restated it, because recent data indicates the H1B program is too big already for the economy we currently have.
Since that time, he has reassessed the position.
You say he has a weak $pot for free trade? Free trade no bueno. And the list of those big dollar “donators” [wink, wink} is impressive.
It had to do with the Ex-Im Bank.
A ad from freedom works...
“Mitch McConnell has lied to you and sided with the Democrats and lobbyists!
He is allowing the Ex-Im Bank to come back from the dead, after he promised multiple times that he wouldn’t.
He has lied to Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee, and he has lied to you.
Contact Mitch McConnell today and tell him to stop selling out America!”
No he did not.
NOBODY has voted for TPP since TPP has NEVER come up for a vote.
Nice try though.
I am in total agreement with Mark Levin on free trade, and mark has a lot more inside experience on this issue then most.
Tariffs and trade barriers, of the kind that Trump is selling to his populist base, is exactly the sort of thing that causes and has caused recessions, depressions, and even global trade wars.
Long ago conservatives took a position in favor of free trade and against regulatory interferences.
But every now and then, as memories fade, some candidate comes along and wants to return to it.
You do that only because you are ignorant of the cause and effects of the past and have failed to learn from it.
Yes, nobody has voted for or against it.
It has not come up yet..
It is possible that it may not, unless they can release the contents of it so we can see it..
GWB was a free trader as well, but in his agreements, we inserted anti-dumping provisions and numerous protections to make free trade, fair trade for all parties.
The fear is that Obama has not or is not capable of negotiating a fair deal for us..
...and I don’t think he is, based on previous deals..
I see you are not aware of the legislative parameters of TPA/TPP.
TPP goes unless Congress votes against...inclusive of Filibuster and Veto.
It takes a 2/3 vote to stop it.
Why not GoldmanSachs?
Because of PETER DENIS SUTHERLAND, this is why.

Thank you for posting that.
Many of these “politicans” say all the right stuff but would sell out their own grandmother for 2 bits from their globalist corporate paymasters. Most of the candidàtes are cheap dates willing to give up all principles and ethics for corporate pocket change that they think might get them elected or reelected.
Not one of these free trade pacts has ever expanded the middle and working class, or has reduced our debt, and has made us a more secure and self sufficient.
Well that clears things up a bit!☺
Btw, I love slick phrases like, "Undocumented immigrant", "Free trade" "Gay". It's all sounds so good, happy, free and made legal!
No sale on free trade. I've heard the talking points. Have not seen the America decline over the past couple decades? How many of his big$ "investors" are invested or connected to these trade agreements?
