Russian build-up in Syria part of secret deal with Iran’s Quds Force leader

Fox News has learned Quds head Qassem Soleimani and Putin discussed such a joint military plan for Syria at that meeting, an encounter first reported by Fox News in early August.

"The Russians are no longer advising, but co-leading the war in Syria," one intelligence official said.

The Quds Force is the international arm of Iran's Revolutionary Guard, involved in exporting terrorism to Iran's proxies throughout the Middle East including Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Yemen.

Intelligence sources told Fox News that -- in addition to the previously reported arrival of nearly 50 Russian marines, 100 housing units and armored vehicles delivered by a stream of massive Antonov-124 Condor military transport aircraft and two Russian landing ships in Syria -- the Russians have delivered aviation, intelligence and communications facilities to deploy a powerful offensive force.

Officials who have monitored the build-up say they've seen more than 1,000 Russian combatants -- some of them from the same plainclothes Special Forces units who were sent to Crimea and Ukraine. Some of these Russian troops are logistical specialists and needed for security at the expanding Russian bases.

Like I’ve said before, once ISIS starts beheading Russian soldiers on You Tube, then what will the Russian people have to say?

“U.S. officials have confirmed a total of eight military cargo planes from Russia landed in the past few days outside Latakia, a port city on the Mediterranean, becoming an almost daily occurrence.

“Onboard those vessels: Russian armored vehicles, tanks, helicopters, unmanned drones that can be armed and used for intelligence gathering. Western intelligence sources also confirm that the Russians have sent a mobile air traffic control system, communication/listening units, and pre-built housing units.”

Russia is more of a threat to the free world than Iran. Putin will eventually destroy Russia’s people.

So what? This has nothing to do with the nuke treaty, and that treaty is all that matters!

In fact, we should HELP them build nukes as party of the treaty, but on the Promise that they NEVER use them.

Anyway, a fatwa was issued against using nukes by Iranian leader, and you know when someone issues a fatwa, well, it’s very fatwaISH.

Someone has to take on ISIS. As for Iran’s part, I don’t even know what to say yet other than to say, Obama/Kerry have sure made a mess of things.

Obama/Kerry have sure made a mess of things.

Exactly. And they had a lot of help from Mrs. Clinton along the way.

You are crazy if you think Russia is more of a threat than Iran. However, the more they are treated like our enemy, the more they will actually be that. Iran, on the other hand, makes no secret of their hatred of the U.S. and Israel.

I think the opportunity to have good relations with Russia has been squandered by Obama. The negative consequences are going to be felt for decades to come.

When a president of the United States tells the country on TV that Iran has issued a fatwa against nukes, you know we’re in a lot of trouble.

It was one of the most embarrassing moments in American history, to me. It ranks up there with Chamberlain’s comment although some say he knew at that point war was coming and was stalling for time to prepare. I dont know.

I wonder how much faith Israel put in that Fatwa?

They must have 1,000 bunker busters by now.

Russia is threatening nuclear war while murdering thousands in Europe. They are certainly just as much a threat as Iran.

“I think the opportunity to have good relations with Russia has been squandered by Obama. The negative consequences are going to be felt for decades to come.”

Exactly right. I stumbled over the Russian news channel RT, on the way to another channel on Cable TV, and stopped for a moment because they were showing video of Vlad Putin and Silvio Berlusconi together. Curious, I watched the segment. It turns out the two of them are good friends, and Silvio has visited with Putin 4 times this year.

I watched the body language of the two of them together, and saw Putin as one seldom sees him in public. He was laughing, putting his arm on Silvio’s back, patting him, cozying up, in other words it was so plain that Putin liked him. So I now have a good idea of Putin when he likes someone.

Contrast that with how Putin acts when around Obama. Stiff, scowling, standoffish, rejecting, you get the idea. In other words, Putin can’t stand Obama. I will bet you 2 to 1 that Putin’s body language would be somewhat different if Donald Trump is President. Entirely different, in a good way. The U.S. relationship would stand a much greater chance of being repaired.

Putin is no saint, and Trump knows that. But Trump would finnesse Putin much better, and I truly believe, as Trump has stated himself, that they would be able to get along. If I were Putin, I wouldn’t be able to stand being around Obama either.

I've wondered about this exact question. President Bush said something interesting in a post-presidency interview about Putin. He said (paraphrasing), that he had tried to work with Putin on issues of mutual interest. On issues that we're a win/win for both sides. However, Putin doesn't look at things like that. His view is, "you win, I lose."

I think he was right on that. There is this tendency to say, "Hey Putin! you're Christian, we're Christian. We hate terrorists, and you hate terrorists. Let's get together on this." But this mentality does not take into account the Russian idea that sentimentality or solidarity of purpose does not supersede statecraft.

Yet, somehow, people in the west get seduced by the idea that Russia is amenable to such overtures. Going all the way back to the Rosenbergs. "Hey! You're commies, and we're commies. Let's hook up." Russia will take what you offer but they will never be your friend.

To have good relations with Russia means treating them as a junkyard dog and threatening them with the stick.

Since the fall of the U. S. S. R., we have totally mismanaged US / Russian relations.

Couldn’t have done a worse job of it.

You're right we don't. But that's just a failure of political will. If you want to keep Russia honest that's how you do it. You treat them as the backward, third-world nation that they are. They are a moribund people and it's in our interest to keep them that way. Romney knew it back in 2012 and he was ridiculed for it.

Obama got his vacuum of American power an influence on the international stage and Russia filled the void.

Yes, and Putin is doing a good job of it, unfortunately for us.
