Influential radio show host Steve Deace says he will quit his job if Donald Trump carries the evangelical vote in the Iowa Caucus.
"If Donald Trump gets 32% of the evangelical vote in Iowa on Feb. 1 I will quit my job," Deace tweeted on Thursday, responding to someone who referenced a poll. "Not happening."
Deace, a prominent Iowan conservative, has previously endorsed Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in the GOP primary.
In my view, hes what weve been waiting for, Deace said. Hes an end to the false choice between principles and electability.
A Monmouth University poll released Aug. 31 found that retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson holds the edge in the Hawkeye State among evangelicals with 29 percent support, compared to Trumps 23 percent support.
The same survey has Carson and Trump tied for the overall lead in the state at 23 percent support each, followed by former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina in third with 10 percent support, Cruz with 9 percent support and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker with 7 percent support.
I agree with Deace in principle. Evangelicals would be better represented at the national level by Cruz. Trump will trample the Constitution when it suits Trump to do so. Remember Kelo.
Peace,
SR
“He is pretty influential in IA.”
Not any more. Last time he had a prime time slot on WHO; the main 50,000 watt radio station here.
He is syndicated now and is heard more around the nation; but his voice isn’t heard here in Iowa nearly as it was last time.
Warning - do not attract the wrath of The Donald. It only goes badly for the assailant, and ends up BOOSTING the number for The Donald.
Isn’t Jeb Bush proof enough of that?
As an aside, Ted Cruz has assiduously AVOIDED directing any barbs at The Donald. Perhaps Cruz lags behind The Donald, but it is like the NASCAR driver who stays firmly close behind the leader, being essentially being pulled along in the wake, but not directly threatening the lead car.
But in a position to take over the lead should the lead car come to grief in some way.
Is he also going to move to France? :-)
That's not true. The Aug 31 poll from Monmouth showed Trump and Carson tied at 23%. Here's the link to Monmouth, see for yourself.
Never play that card if you don’t mean it!
Deace is just blowing.
There is no way to reliably determine the proportion of ‘the evangelical vote’ which might be captured by Trump at the Iowa caucuses.
Deace is staking is job on another poll? Not likely. It is possible negotiations are going poorly on continuing his radio gig...
Anybody have any stats on how many candidates, in the past, have won IOWA, and DID NOT GET THE NOMINATION ..?????
Maybe somebody needs to tell Steve .. before he blows a gasket. And .. remind him Ted Cruz is very strong; and could make a very good showing in Iowa and NH.
I agree with the sentiment, but how many Leftists actually left the nation when Bush was elected?
If he leaves, I’ll be surprised.
If Carson gets anywhere near what Trump does I’ll be surprised.
I personally know and work with Steve Deace, and he's one of the good guys. To have so many FReepers casually dismiss him is bewildering.
He has endorsed Ted Cruz, FWIW.
(I naturally expect Trump fanbois to damn me for daring to defend Steve Deace. Damning is what Trump and his acolytes do.)
That’s what Steve Deace is counting on. He’s strongly endorsed Ted Cruz, and is confident Cruz will win the nomination in Iowa.
You both speak out of ignorance. I know Steve Deace, and he is strongly opposed to illegal immigration. He’s enthusiastically endorsed Ted Cruz, FWIW.
Again, these ignorant, stupid, presumptuous, megalomaniacal drama queens?
The pro-sodomists, the bisexuals, the transsexuals, the zoo collection of human detritus, the mistakes of nature, none of them who promised to leave us forever actually did so, after 911.
I expect these current drama queens will slink likewise under new rocks, and never be heard from again.
While I am enjoying the show with Trump and love that he is goring everyone’s ox, I do not think he is serious presidential material. The presidency would be all about Trump not the country. While he is infinitely more watchable, I bet the “I” count in his speeches equals that of Obama. He would make a great sec of treasury, but I hope he is not elected president.
Not only that, Cher said that old people would have to eat dog food if Bush was elected. So after Bush was elected, being a dutiful daughter, I bought elderly my mother some dog food. However, she refused to eat it and fed it to her dog instead. You just can’t believe these entertainment types, they just don’t know what they are talking about.
You only know from Trump in how he is campaigning, that doesn’t necessarily translate to how he’ll govern.
The point of campaigning is the win. What Trump is doing is calculated to give him the best chance to win.....and you may not like this, but a large part of that is to try to appeal to Low-Info Voters, who almost have exclusively been voting for Democrats. And with more and more of them, it gets more difficult to win a national election without a significant part of that vote.
That's the beauty of the sane, mentally healthy segments of society.
When they feel threatened, they simply act, with no need to broadcast it to the world.
The nutjob drama queens just embarrass themselves.
You're a liar, Steve...did you know all liars will have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone? You know... hellfire?
Plenty more commenters on this thread have no idea who Deace is or what he stands for, or even what he means here. Won’t stop them from canned comments though.
