France is preparing to launch airstrikes against Islamic State in Syria, French President François Hollande said on Monday, expanding his nations involvement in the Syrian conflict.
Mr. Hollande has previously ordered strikes against Islamic State in Iraq but steered clear of striking the group in Syria for fear the attacks would bolster Syrian strongman Bashar al-Assad, the jihadists main foe in the civil war.
Nothing should be done to consolidate or keep Assad in power in Syria, Mr. Hollande said at a news conference where he laid out his policy priorities for the next six months.
The decision to bomb in Syria appears to reflect concern among French officials about Islamic States ability to mount a terrorist attack against France from its Syrian strongholds, where several hundred French citizens are believed to be fighting alongside the group. Mr. Hollande said reconnaissance flights over Islamic State positions in Syria would begin Tuesday to identify potential targets.
Today, in Syria, what we want to know is, what is being prepared against us and what is being done against the Syrian populations, Mr. Hollande said.
After those efforts, we will be ready to conduct strikes, he said.

Hey, Hollande!
What day and time? What areas are targeted? Will the approach and subsequent attack be on international TV? Will the janitor at the dried-milk packaging warehouse get out in time?
Join us next time...same Obama-time, same Obama-channel!
Better than what 0 is doing.
...and yet France has opened their borders to the same satanic islamists.
Insane stupidity!
Obama isn’t going to be happy about that.
Wow... when did France grow some balls??
Will they f**k this up like they did Vietman and we will have to bail their asses out again, or will they actually be successful??
The airstrikes will become necessary within their own borders and those of their nearby neighbors if they don’t mend their ways and shut out the invaders.
Need more information
Under what auspices is France doing air strikes in Syrua? They are not part of NATO so...
UN? “ Coalition” ? Who’s in command?
What aircraft being used and staging out of what base?
I hope they are coordinating with the Russians
MARK
They don’t have a clue who they are bombing
All they will do is pave the way for ISIS to come to power.
They can coordinate with the Gulf States — Saudi Arabia, U.A.E., Jordan, etc. These countries have already been involved against ISIS in Iraq and so they have a locus standi in the U.N. if someone raises issues.
The French have bases in the U.A.E. and Djibouti, which have been used for its previous operations.
“Wow... when did France grow some balls??”
I suspect they see it as a stylish boutique war where they can strut their stuff, sell a few fighter planes, and take no risks. I have news for them, Hillary Clinton authorized thousands of shoulder fired missiles to take down Kaddafi. This was over the Pentagon’s objection. Those missiles are all over the middle east. The French may lose a few planes. Let’s see how long they keep it up after that.
So France is attacking ISIS. Really? Putin is also attacking ISIS. So 0bama wants to attack Assad thus supporting ISIS.
There are no “moderate” rebels. This is total BS
This is BS. We are being played.
Airstrikes?
Does the Wes still harbor this idea that these people are stupid?
No wonder they keep humiliating us.
Those bases are pretty far away for tactical strikes in Syria
So wth is the UN on “ approving” use of force in Syria just because those forces are being used in Iraq?
So much for sovereignty
Meanwhile Saudi , Egypt and “coalition” forces are planning massive air strikes tonight on Iranian- backed rebels tonight in Yemen, so perhaps the French will get a piece of that?
I’ll put this in very simple terms.
US-led anti-ISIS coalition: Good.
France: Good
Syrian Secular Opposition groups (Christians, Allawites, non-Islamist arabs): Good
Russia: Not so Good
Turkey: Bad, because they support ISIS but we can’t say that because we need their assistance.
Syria, Hamas and Hezbollah: Bad
Syrian Islamist opposition groups: Bad.
ISIS: BAD, BAD, BAD.
Sometimes people need to band together to rid themselves of a dangerous predator. They may not like each other but they all value the welfare of their neighborhood more than the wellbeing of the predator.
Simple terms are what get you killed.
Getting involved in a 3-way civll war in the Mid-East? BAD, BAD, BAD
