Breaking ranks with nearly all of his fellow 2016 Republican contenders, Donald Trump says he supports President Barack Obama's decision to reengage diplomatically with Cuba.
"50 years is enough," Trump said in an interview with the Daily Caller published Tuesday, referring to Obama's decision to re-establish U.S. ties with Cuba.
"I think it's fine. I think it's fine, but we should have made a better deal," Trump added. "The concept of opening with Cuba is fine."
Trump joins libertarian-leaning Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky as the only Republican running for president to express his support for normalizing relations with Cuba.
The rest of the GOP field has slammed Obama's decision to reopen the U.S. embassy in Havana and engage diplomatically with the government of Cuban President Raul Castro -- the brother of Cuba's former strongman Fidel Castro.

Ding.
Without at least getting our fugitives back from them?
Just what did we get from opening relations with Cuba again? Zero, zilch, nada. Not even an agreement to free political prisoners.
DT is NOT a conservative.
He is more of a populist.
Caveat emptor.
I agree with Trump on this too. At some point, the Castro’s will be gone, and it would be good for both us and Cuba. Good for the Cubans to have more freedoms, good for us to not have an enemy at the doorstep.
Perhaps a Trump hotels exchange deal?
Here is the key phrase and it can apply to all of Obama’s deals.
“but we should have made a better deal,”
All of obama’s deals are horrible. He gives up everything and we get nothing in return. From what I know of most Cubans who come here - they become very patriotic Americans once legalized. The majority of them are hard working as well. It would be wonderful to see these people freed after 50 or more years of living under that communist regime. I think Trump would have insisted on human rights for the citizens of Cuba. Any money flowing into that country goes into the Castro regime’s pockets - the citizens get something like 15% of any of that money. I might be off on their percentage - but it is very low.
That’s it, this will finish him off once and for goo...., nevermind. sarc/
It’s a done deal at this point. I’m not a fan but frankly don’t see any reason to roll them back. We have relations with other regimes as bad and worse. The embargo did not bring the Castro Regime down so let’s see if an influx of Americans and money can do the trick.
Oops again. Hey Trumpets........ Cruz looking a little better now?
Hey Trump, we got NOTHING and if you think Obama wants capitalism for Cuba, you need to re-think.
I agree with you. These are done deals and many on this forum think their candidate can do something about them - they might say something - but, can’t do a darned thing to change what this POS in the WH has done. Trump knows he can take bad deals and make them good - that’s what he is excellent at doing. Now that he has mentioned this - he should be pressed on what he would do - but, on the other hand - why tip off the Castro regime to what you want to do. But, I assume the anti-Trump people on this forum and in the MSM will demand an answer. They are so stupid - you have to keep these things to yourself and roll them out at the appropriate time.
I was against normalizing relations until I watched a few episodes of Cuban Chrome on TV. Those Cubans had their prayers answered.
Under Trump I would have no problem with trading with Cuba, because I know Trump would bring Capitalism back the Cuba. Complete with a Trump Tower in downtown Havana.....works for me.
After all ... TRUMP WAS NOT PART OF THE DEAL !
I think the same is true about the agreement signed to support the nominee ....... EVERY OTHER candiddate signed the same thing .... so if Trump is the nominee ......
Hell, we do business with China and Vietnam. Cuba’s only sin was not having a large supply of third world wage workers.
What you seem to be missing is that this deal just ensures that more and more money will go to the Castro regime so it can continue to suppress the Cuban people. By the way, I think your 15% estimate is probably way high, but that’s just a guess on my part.
Right now I think Trump can come down anywhere he wants on anything he wants to address and his loyal followers will find a way to rationalize it so that they can continue to agree with everything he says.
We should have freed the Cuban people fifty years ago and re-established all the original property rights. Even Reagan got Cuba wrong. This deal just perpetuates the situation.
But I’ll bet there’s another Trump Hotel on the drawing boards now, situated in Cuba. And maybe more than one. As his followers keep telling us, Trump is no fool and no one can buy him because he’s a billionaire. Looks like he’ll stay that way too.
A lot of Americans died fighting the cold war. Nuzzling up to a communist regime, is an stab in their backs.
