Kasich Campaign Hit By Charter School Data Rigging Scandal
Breitbart ^ | 09/05/2015 | Dr. Susan Berry

Newly-released documents indicate that the husband of Ohio Gov. John Kasich’s presidential campaign manager participated with other Ohio Department of Education (ODE) staff in a coordinated effort to falsely inflate the evaluations of some charter school sponsors.

In July, former state Department of Education Director of School Choice David Hansen – husband of Beth Hansen, Kasich’s former chief of staff in the governor’s office and now his presidential campaign manager – resigned after admitting he manipulated evaluations of some charter sponsors, reports the Columbus Dispatch. The data rigging allowed the sponsors of poor-performing online schools to appear to be engaged in adequate supervision of those schools.

State Superintendent of Schools Richard Ross said the records show that neither he nor Kasich had any involvement in the data manipulation. The Dispatch, however, reports “emails show that some outside the department were asking for explanations.”

I’m not a Kasich fan, but this seems quite a bit of a stretch ...

Charter schools, another bad idea from the GOP.

Are we not judged by the company we keep? Much less appointed to high, and most likely well paid, government officials.

What’s that old phrase about character is doing the right thing when nobody is looking.

Being a stretch charge didn’t matter much for Christie. Media ran with bridge gate.

absurd right?.

“A John Kasich 2nd cousin, twice removed was caught overpouring during an Episode of Bar Rescue.

John Taffer berated the Kasich relative on air before the young man promised to do better. Does the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree?

John Kasich was unavailable for comment even though this reporter made multiple attempts. What is John Kasich hiding?”

Charter schools have filled a oid in Phoenix, AZ. Why do you think they are bad?

It isn't. OH has a very vigorous and popular charter school presence and a public home-school option that allows participation in public school extra-curriculars. They're terrific safety valves as options for parents who don't want their young ones in the local public schools. It keeps the public schools somewhat on their toes with discipline and other issues because students can go elsewhere.

The Teacher's Unions hate it. If there's any scandal in the supervision of those options, the unions will use it to get them defunded and severely limited. Kasich owes it to OH votes to be very sure there is no scandal involving them, or else he's playing into the hands of liberals while pretending to be conservative.

Still use public money, with even less oversight than public schools. Typical half-assed Republican “reform.”

Charter schools are a way to make an end run around union rules. Home and private schooling is typically better, but Charter schools are generally an improvement over the public alternatives.

Kasich is unimpressive.

He did the worst in the last debate, in my opinion.

No, they're a pressure relief valve for real reform. No wonder Republicans love them.

If people want public money to educate their kids, they need to take the whole package.

No, they're a pressure relief valve for real reform. No wonder Republicans love them.

Look, we home school our children. My wife was home schooled starting in high school, and I attended prep school starting in 6th grade.

Obviously, charter schools are not an ultimate solution.

But there are real people right now whose children are better off than they would be in a standard public school. While in a rational world, the charter schools would take the heat off the public schools if they ever became commonplace, the educrat types are far from rational, and politicians, Republican and Democrat, are vulnerable to cries of "for the children" regarding public school support as a general principle.

Anything that challenges the status quo in as a general proposition is likely a step in the right direction, THOUGH ONLY IF DONE AT THE LOCAL OR AT MOST STATE LEVEL.

Those states that voted in "civil unions" didn't stop the pervert community from pushing harder still.

What would real reform look like (other than funding home schools and private schools with NO STRINGS ATTACHED)? a public school reform needs some agreement as to what the schools should do. Half the people on this board seem to be on board with the idea that the function of education is to prepaer you for a job, the Chamber of Commerce position. A quarter of the world out there are on board with the womyn's studies etc. nonsense.

So, there can be no true reform of the public system and have it remain public. To the degree that some charter schools are less public, they are a marginal improvement. Something is better than nothing for those who do not choose private or home schooling.

Sorry, I have a very fundamental problem with people taking my money and then not even giving me the pretense of control. Let them sacrifice like I have.

You got that right.

He panders until that doesn't work at which point he claims to be doing God's will.
