Atlanta-Area Cop Likely Shot by Fellow Officer After Entering Wrong Home
NBC News ^ | SEP 1 2015 | ELISHA FIELDSTADT and M. ALEX JOHNSON

The bullet that struck an Atlanta-area police officer — hit after responding to a burglary call at the wrong house — likely came from a fellow officer's gun, investigators said Tuesday.

The homeowner, Christopher McKinley, 36, was also shot by one of three responding DeKalb County officers who entered his house on accident Monday night, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. He was treated and released from a hospital, the GBI said.

A dog in the home was shot at by two of the officers and killed, authorities said.

The GBI said in a statement Tuesday that the "injured officer was likely shot accidentally by one of the other officers on the scene." The officer, identified later Tuesday as Travis Jones, who's been with the department for 10 months, underwent surgery at Grady Memorial Hospital and was reported serious but stable.

The two other officers — Quhanna Lloyd, an eight-year veteran, and Timothy Harden, a five-year veteran — were placed on administrative leave pending investigations by the GBI and the DeKalb County district attorney's office, authorities said.

"Chris said out here: 'I don't even have a gun. Why did they shoot me?'" Tama Colson, a next-door neighbor of McKinley's who heard the shots, told NBC station WXIA of Atlanta.

"'Why did they shoot my dog?'" she quoted McKinley as saying. "'Who are they?'"

...

The officers responded to a call for a burglary in progress about 7:30 p.m. ET, but they went to the wrong address because the caller gave only a description of a "brick-and-tan one-story home" without an address, authorities said.

The GBI said that the initial investigation shows that the house the three officers entered was unrelated to the initial 911 call and that investigators have found no evidence of criminal activity in the home the officers entered.

I’d call it “The Trifecta” except the cops did [at least] FOUR stupid and illegal things.

Bad story all around.

Feel REALLY bad for the dog and his owner.

The city should be sued HARD for this!

What kind of training do these cops get, anyway, or are they extra skittish these days because of all the cop killings?

Correction: "Investigators have found no evidence of criminal activity in the home UNTIL the officers entered"...

If they didn’t have a correct address, it doesn’t seem smart to just go in a home shooting. And the owner didn’t even have a gun.

Which last I find surprising, given the area.

And yet... the homeowner is shot, an officer is shot by his parter, and the family pet is dead. WHY?!?

Judging from the names of the officers, I suspect at least two of the cops were Holder’s People as well which explains why the race pimps are not screaming bloody hell about this.

Still, you get a 9-1-1 call with an inspecific address and this is how you respond?

No.

The homeowner did not lock his door, allowing the cops in.

That is entrapment!

Same thing happened in the Dallas area, homeowner responded to hearing people in his garage, was shot by the police. Officer in that case was, at last time I heard, being investigated for homicide as, once again, facts didn’t match the officer’s account.

I’m Holder’s people as well by that standard. Keep that nonsense to yourself.

Police break into the wrong home, shoot the unarmed homeowner, kill the homeowner's dog and shoot each other.

And will face absolutely NO serious personal consequences for their actions. The innocent homeowner won't even get his medical bills paid for - going by the precedent set last year by the swat team that raided a house on bad information and burned off part of a toddler's face with one of their grenades.

I don’t think that particular toddler burning has been settled in civil court yet. I believe the hospital bills weren’t paid because of the fear by the county legal that would be an admission of guilt or culpability.

The county involved will end up paying big time for it, IMO.

Not the way I heard it. I heard that the county was off the hook for the kid's medical bills BECAUSE the officers were found not guilty. Can you say "WHITEWASH?"

However, all hope is not lost. The dickless Tracy who did most of the falsifying is under federal investigation.

“At least they got the dog?”

And it only took 48 bullets and multiple gun shot wounds to themselves and others.

Even if the police had found evidence of a crime, none of it would be admissible in court, since it would have been obtained illegally.
