Texas Governor Rick Perry's former chairman Sam Clovis has joined forces with Donald Trump as the race to become the Republican Party's presidential nominee got its first defection last night.
Clovis, an influential Conservative activist, college professor and talk-show host is now a member of Trump's team.
In a sign that the GOP front-runner is being taken seriously on the campaign trail, Clovis, has become national co-chair and senior policy adviser for the Property tycoon turned politician.
Earlier this week, Clovis quit the Perry campaign, after hinting that it was facing a host of difficulties.
The Trump campaign relished announcing the defection on Tuesday night, as it is a huge blow to Governor Perry who has run into financial difficulty and has been forced to stop paying staff.
Clovis said that he was both 'humbled and honored' to take on the role and join team Trump.
*snip*
After Clovis quit Perry's campaign he told The Washington Post: 'I feel bad for the campaign and I feel bad for Governor Perry because I think he's a marvelous human being, he's a great man and it was my honor to be a part of this, but it was just time to move on.'
Clovis becomes the first high-level member of a campaign staff to change allegiance during the race for the 2016 presidential race.

Word I've heard is that Clovis was snagged by Trump's Iowa chair Chuck Laudner.
A fair weather friend I see.
Whoa! Who would trust this? He was a mole, or is a mole, or both.
Or maybe he figured out which way the wind is blowing.
Precisely my point.
> He was a mole, or is a mole, or both.
Rats, sinking ships, gotta pay the mortgage, etc.

Long years ago Perry seemed like a strong candidate. If he was the nominee instead of Romney or McCain, I bet he would have been elected.
At least he wouldn’t have allowed Candy Crowley to lie on national TV, or sucked up to 0bama like McVain did (DURING the campaign no less!).
He would have been much more palatable to conservatives than either of those two Establishment picks.
Chuck Laudner knows Clovis VERY well (having run Clovis Senate campaign and both being from Iowa).
Sam Clovis has gone from Santorum to Perry to Trump.
Perry stopped paying staff in early August.
What’s the word on Clovis in Iowa?
Follow the money.
Yes that is usually a wise move for those in the profession.
Do I work for free? No. Not normally.
But I worked my can off for free for RR in 1976, 1980, and 1984. All for free. I was a volunteer. And I would do it all over again.
Well if you don’t get paid then it’s either work for free or move on to the next paying job.
My guess is this guy is out for hire and apparently some some creds or other campaigns
wouldn’t be looking at him. JMO
Clovis made many fans among the Tea Party conservatives. He finished second to Joni Ernst in the US Senate primary in 2014. Many were shocked that he went to Rick Perry and now this has people laughing and shaking their heads. Follow the money, perhaps.
Followed by a whole string of thundering expletives.
I’m hearing Jeb has called Trump to see if Trump would appoint him ambassador to one of the Latin American countries.
Thx for that.
Im hearing Jeb has called Trump to see if Trump would appoint him ambassador to one of the Latin American countries.
LOL!
Why people who voted for Obama twice are suddenly in love with Donald Trump
