Amid mounting concerns about Donald Trump’s candidacy from the GOP establishment, Republican leaders in at least two states have found a way to make life a lot harder for him.

The Virginia and North Carolina parties are in discussions about implementing a new requirement for candidates to qualify for their primary ballots: that they pledge to support the Republican presidential nominee — and not run as a third-party candidate — in the general election.

So far everyone that has gotten in the way of Trumpzilla has been stomped. Gee I wonder how this will turn out?

Even though election is months away, I have several friends that have already announced they will only vote for Cruz or Trump. No one in our family will ever vote for another Bush, Paul or Kasich, of that I’m sure.

Trying to leave RNC in clear because Trump will probably go nuts and run third party. But I don’t think Republicans care about that in the end. Whether a Democrat or Republican wins, their power structure will remain the same and that’s the goal.

Probably be struck down by the courts as changing election rules during an election is generally frowned upon.

Now, whether the courts take it up in a speedy and judicious manner, that’s a new question.

Virginia hasn’t learned its lesson from the last “loyalty oath” fiasco, I see.

Like the dems, this is the GOPe thinking they are smarter than they actually are. It has been said that 4 million of the base stayed home in 2012. Maybe the GOPe is going for 8 million this time?!

When the Virginia GOPe disqualified Newt a few years back Ron Paul got 40% and Eric Cantor got the boot. Idiots.

This kind of chicken$#!+ from the GOPe is a big part of Trump’s appeal in the first place.

NOVA is trying to turn us into the Southern District of Columbia.
Don’t know what’s up with Cooch but my congressman, state Rep and state Senator will hear what I think.
And what it will cost them.

It’s not “changing the rules during an election”. The campaigns may have started but the changing of rules prior to an election is routine, happens all the time both within party structures and legislatively. The wisdom of particular moves aside, changing rules ahead of time is perfectly normal and legitimate.

VA is a state filled filled with voters who know how to “Cantor” a politician.

Big mistake to change the rules just because of one man.

I don’t care if they ban all other candidates except Jeb. I’ll vote for Deez Nuts if necessary.

"It would anger voters to a point where besides assuring Republicans lose the presidency, it could cost them the Senate and HOR"

I really don't think they care. If they are run out of office they will just cash in by becoming a lobbyist or consultant.

If they stay in office but aren't in the majority they can continue with the "we can't do anything until we have the majority lie".

This convinces me, more than ever, that Trump is the only one that can destroy the uniparty.

The light of day, which this article provides, will put a stop to this nonsense of targeting one candidate.

I’m sure Rush will add his voice to making sure everyone who cares about politics hears about this.

This rule won’t make it very far.

The Virginia GOPe didn’t disqualify Newt. The qualification he failed to meet was a longstanding one.

Cantor got thrown out two years later in a completely different election cycle - and good riddance. He was every bit the selling-legislation-to-the-highest-bidder quisling that Boehner is.
