Unconfirmed reports suggest that two people in Toronto have killed themselves over the Ashley Madison hack, local police said in a briefing providing details about the beginning of the leak.
As of this morning, we have two unconfirmed reports of suicides that are associated because of the leak of Ashley Madison customers profiles, Toronto police service staff superintendent Bryce Evans said at a press conference on Monday.
Evans said the nature of the dating site for married people was of no interest to us as the investigative teams.
Security analyst Brian Krebs said last week he feared exactly that outcome. Theres a very real chance that people are going to overreact. I wouldnt be surprised if we saw people taking their lives because of this, and obviously piling on with ridicule and trying to out people is not gonna help the situation, Krebs, who first reported the hack, said on Wednesday.
The hack, in which some 33m profiles from the service were published online, has been the focus of extortion and phishing attempts. Among them are hack checking websites that compile the emails of the curious entered into them and then send malicious software to those emails.
Evans also said that a new scam, claiming to erase names from the Ashley Madison database in order to preserve users privacy, had sprung up in the few days since the hack.
By clicking on these links, you are exposing your computer to adware, spyware, malware and viruses, Evans said. Multiple sites have now downloaded [the Ashley Madison user database] and are present. Nobody is going to be able to erase that information. There are confirmed cases of people trying to extort Ashley Madison clients.

Two people are now dead. More will be. How’s that working out?
Third party people got involved and thought they knew best.
If a friend finds out about something like this, as a friend they should try to reason with the person. Even then, there’s only so much you can do.
Just flat outing these people isn’t our mandate.
Perhaps you would want to know. So do we apply that rule to everyone so whoever can’t handle it can commit suicide. Is that really okay with you?
You think these people deserve the death penalty?
Sleep around, think you’re clever, get caught, face the music.
No sympathy here except for the spouses victimized by the suicide idiots selfishness.
They have no one else to blame but themselves.
There was no “death penalty”, and even if there was, they convicted themselves.
Lay down with dogs, wake up with fleas.
Can’t stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.
Can’t do the time, don’t do the crime.
et alia ad infinitum
No sympathy here.
You are not in a position to assert that.
There is no right to secretly expose your spouse to diseases which could kill or sterilize them.
And absolutely that is implicit in your assertion.
HPV, Herpes, AIDS, even diseases that a so kisser to re not strictly venereal like tuberculosis and hepatitis.
All that comes with adultry.
You haven’t demonstrated any moral or ethical high ground.
Why should I care?
there are places in the US where cheating on your spouse is celebrated - Hollywood, San Francisco, New York City, just for openers. Tell them to move there and enjoy adultery with all the others.
The leak had nothing to do with it. Shame had everything to do with it.
Okay, then we can mark you down as not caring if people commit suicide as a result of the implementation of your preferred policy.
Thanks.
Well, as a matter of fact I am in a position to make the case that may well be the situation. You on the other hand are not in a position to be able to deny it.
Where did I say they had a right to secretly expose a spouse to anything.
What I said was that there may be an understanding between the husband and wife. You can’t say that there isn’t.
So you can come up with your wildest dreams all you like, but you don’t know that this person isn’t just being with one person with little sexual history.
And once again, you don’t know what’s going on at home and what the wife might be bringing home.
You don’t know what you are talking about.
I have said I don’t agree with this taking place. I have also said I don’t think it is the duty of third party people to become involved and create havok in the lives of others.
You simply DO NOT have enough information to make a educated decision. When that is the case, it’s best to stay out of it.
Years ago one of my brothers became involved with a woman. She was married but didn’t tell him. All the while he thought he was in control of the relationship she was leading him around by the...libido.
Fortunately (for most concerned at any rate) someone sought him out and privately brought him up to speed. He had it bad for her but broke off the affair. But she wasn’t ready to end it. She chased him to the point where he was considering a NCO.
It became more and more awkward as people became aware of the liaison (at one point after he broke off the relationship with her she started bringing the husband around the bar we frequented). Several criticized him even though he was as much a victim as the husband was. I don’t know how the husband finally found out but they abruptly stopped coming around to the bar we all frequented and then they were divorced.
It was a messed up deal (I almost said affair) for all concerned - one in which everyone lost something and the husband lost everything.
All I am saying is that they did it to themselves.
Don’t blame it on a website.
Don’t blame it on a hacker.
Don’t blame it on a cold spouse.
Just put the blame where it belongs.
They did it to themselves.
They were happy doing what they were doing...until they were exposed.
Then they could not handle the truth.
I am very sorry to hear that.
I’m sure he was devastated. One, his love interest was a mirage. Two, he had to have felt some guilt over being “the other guy” behind a husband’s back. And even though not by choice, you’d still feel that way.
Back during the Vietnam war, I was introduced to a woman. She wanted to play around and I considered it until I found out she had a husband and he was in Vietnam. I hightailed it out of there and never went back.
You brother’s friend did the right thing in private. Hopefully someone did the same thing for the husband.
I agree that your brother was a victim here. No doubt about it. Tough situation for him.
“...Back during the Vietnam war, I was introduced to a woman. She wanted to play around and I considered it until I found out she had a husband and he was in Vietnam. I hightailed it out of there and never went back...”

The exact same thing happened to me in 1973.
>>What if the wife has a problem that prevents her fulfilling her martial sexual obligations? What if she and her husband work out an arrangement where he can obtain satisfaction elsewhere?
Is that any of our business?<<
They don’t call them “vows” for nothing.
It isn’t my specific business but cheating is cheating. If someone is on A/M with the spouse’s implicit or explicit permission then there is no harm done (by your reasoning).
I don’t personally care but if someone is busted for cheating then boo freaking hoo. It is like an episode of “Cheaters.”
Justify it all you want but don’t ask for my sympathy.
That has stuck with me for many years. It’s been 47 years or so.
Time flies like an arrow.
Fruit flies like a banana.
May God’s blessings be upon you, my FRiend.
I’m not justifying anything. You have a very difficult time understanding condemnation for something, vs taking action that may wind up with people dying.
I don’t know why they are doing it. You don’t either.
Is it evil or is there a reason we don’t know about? You don’t know. You don’t care.
It’s hard enough the idea of playing God when you know everything. You’re satisfied to do it when you don’t.
Yes there is harm done if the spouse is agreeing with it. They don’t want that information made public. You can’t understand that? There may be very private considerations that the extended family is not aware of. Members of the community would be either.
I’m not justifying it. I asking you to grasp that you can’t justify what you approve of here either.
People do not deserve the death penalty for doing this. You should be able to grasp that concept.
Same to you. Thank you.
