NEW YORK (AP) Police say a security guard has died after a man walked into a federal building in Manhattan and opened fire.
The guard, identified by his union as Idrisa Camara, died shortly after the shooting Friday evening.
Police say the gunman walked through a side entrance of the building that houses an immigration court and other government offices.
Chief James O'Neil says the gunman later shot himself in the head. He was found dead in the building.
A law enforcement official identified the shooter as Kevin Downing, of Fort Lee, New Jersey.

3. A Twitter Account Appearing to Belong to Downing Expresses Very Liberal Political Views
According to a Twitter account with the name Kevin Downing from Fort Lee, his politics could be described as very liberal. He seems to particularly passionate about minimum wage rights in America. Downing wrote on March 19, 2014 Happy Meals, low wages, and pay theft? @McDonalds its time to treat workers right. He also expresses support for liberal politicians Elizabeth Warren and Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.
“walked through a side entrance of the building that houses an immigration court and other government offices.”
Impossible, it’s a gunfree zone as well as being the gun ban utopia of NYC.
This guy was one of their’s.
Nothing to do with the Tea Party.
Sounds about right.
God Bless Idrisa Camara and his family.
Well, we know who he’ll be voting for next year.........
Many fast food joints make their end of night shift employees punch off the clock then stay and clean on their own dime. Most employees need the jobs so bad they refuse to blow the whistle. Those that do threaten to report the boss get fired.
A violation of fair labor standards any way that you look at it.
The murderer, Kevin Downing, was an older white Federal employee who had lost his job at the Department of Labor Statistics back in 1999, supposedly for blowing the whistle on a “pork barrel project,” which is odd for a liberal as they usually aren’t frugal with other people’s money. Apparently he was an economist at Labor; his late fiance’s cancer treatment had ruined their finances and his house was in foreclosure...
The victim was Idriss Camara, a black immigrant from Ivory Coast and father of 4 who was only there because he’d volunteered to work overtime... he had lost his father 3 months before.
The weird thing is he was [allegedly?] fired for blowing the whistle on a porky project promoted by a politician from NJ which is where Downing lived... and for some strange reason it just so happens that reporters interview Bill Pascrell, a politician from NJ. Not sure if Pascrell initiated the call to the press or if they issues a call to Pascrell.
I wonder if the porky project was one of Pascrell’s ... he certainly seems interested in the case.... and he’s a nasty piece of work, just the sort to screw a whistleblower:
Look who comes out to explain the motivations of the shooter away by claiming he had a “raw deal” when he was fired and so on...none other than this pro-jihadi politician :
NJ politician Bill Pascrell [who is known for his creative excusing of Jihadist terrorists groups]: https://www.investigativeproject.org/3546/islamist-fellow-traveler-rep-bill-pascrell
The NY Times states in the link below says that the shooter, Downing, was opposed the closing of the New York City office of the Bureau of Labor and Statistics and its move to an annex in Mountainside, N.J. which he claimed would be a waste of taxpayer’s money. [see https://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/23/nyregion/unraveling-of-gunman-began-long-before-killing-a-guard-and-himself-in-manhattan.html]
Wonder if Pascrell was behind that move ?
