Donald Trump slams Pam Geller for “taunting” Muslims (May 4, 2015)
Salon ^ | May 4, 2015 | Scott Eric Kaufman

Posted on 08/20/2015 9:26:12 AM PDT by Sam Gamgee

Donald Trump was asked on “Fox & Friends” this morning for his opinion on the shooting outside Pam Geller’s “Draw the Prophet” contest, and he didn’t mince his words.

Brian Kilmeade asked whether he still believed “in freedom of speech, regardless of what they’re talking about — you’ve got to think they could do without being shot, don’t you think?”

Trump replied that it’s “very terrible,” but was heartened that the police acted “very strongly” by killing the two suspects. After blaming the “weak action” of the Baltimore police for the destruction of “over 200 businesses in a single night,” he praised the Garland, Texas police for their handling of these shooters.

However, he quickly switched subjects, saying that “I watched Pam [Geller on Fox News] earlier, and it really looks like she’s just taunting everybody. What is she doing drawing Muhammad? I mean it’s disgusting,” he said in reference to the attempted shootings. “Isn’t there something else they could be doing? Drawing Muhammad?” he went on.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck cut in to say that they’d asked Geller whether there wasn’t some other way they could have exercised their freedom of speech besides this contest, and Geller told her “No, there wasn’t another way, because you have to fight back against this war against the freedom of speech.”

Trump replied by again asking, “They can’t do something else? They have have to be in the middle of Texas doing something on Muhammad and insulting everybody?”

He reiterated his disgust at the attempted shooting, as well as his belief that Geller is taunting Islamic extremists. “What is she doing?” he asked. “Why is she doing it? It’s probably very risky for her — I don’t know, maybe she likes risk?”

“But what the hell is she doing?” he concluded.

He did not say anything against her right to do what she did. Only that he didn’t like it. Both were exercising free speech. This is an old story from May that we are all aware of.

He disagreed with her method. Said nothing about using the government to prevent her from doing it though.

Don’t try confusing folks with the facts, FRiend ;-)

Clearly a trumped up controversy by SALON.

Yeah, but Trump DID say this. And whether it's Salon or National Review or Redstate or whoever...

They're all gunning for Trump.

Real Americans don't back themselves into a corner and Cower just because somebody
threatens our lives. Islam/Muslims threaten our lives and it's un-American to appease them.

Trump said that he supports a strong military because it makes enemies fear us.
Well, Trump, you cannot have that both ways, you cannot tell us to cower while
you want to build up our military to make them cower.

Will Trump evolve into an "I know what's better for you, then you" candidate?

If Trump divides Americans he'll lose.

Blah, blah, blah. Many Trump supporters disagreed with Trump on this, but it’s a minor thing in the total picture of what’s at stake in this election. Will make no difference in Trump’s level of support.

It's old news (from May) but I am very sensitive about people complaining about annoying our poor little old Islamist friends. Annoy the hell out of them as far as I am concerned. ; )

Trump’s remarks about Pamela Geller mark him as a belligerent coward. It is a most obnoxious trait. Legitimate Republican candidates can learn from his style, but Trump himself is not to be trusted.

I think if Geller wants to to this she has every right but we probably wouldn’t be thrilled with a similar draw Jesus event if it was done out of spite.

Would we try to kill her for it?

That's the point of why she is doing it. Christians aren't killing people for drawing Jesus, Islamic radicals wish to kill you if you offend them by drawing a cartoon (among other things).

I think he’s saying why deliberately taunt them and he might have a point

No, he doesn't. It was a stupid thing to say.

Probably doesn't matter, Trumpsters will defend any and every dopey thing he says. The cult of personality will wear off in time, but for now Trump could say just about anything and his defenders will find an excuse for him.

Expressing Free Speech, Donald.

Yes, to ridicule other people’s religion. That’s an exercise in free speech, but whether it shows good judgment is another question.

Trump: I believe X, not Y.
Trumpettes: X! X! X! X! How could you not believe X? Only a GOPe loser could believe Y! Go Trump!

(next day)

Trump: I believe Y, not X.
Trumpettes: Y! Y! Y! Y! Look at that moron over there who believes X! Go Trump!

She could have taunted Christians, put a Crucifix in a jar of urine, have a museum readily accept it and receive accolades from the MSM.

Right, the MSM might have applauded, but freepers would have criticized her, and rightly so. Or do you say “right on!” when people ridicule the Lord Jesus Christ?

He is wrong, but as he begins to get briefings on Islam, he’ll change his POV.

“Trump does not support free speech”

I didn’t agree with Trump’s OPINION but i don’t see anything about him wanting to take anyone’s right to free speech away?
