Latest CNN Poll: Trump Still Leads, Christie Out of Top Ten

From the Tuesday Morning Jolt:

CNN Poll: Trump Still Leads, Christie Out of Top Ten

A new poll from CNN this morning:

The survey finds Trump with the support of 24% of Republican registered voters. His nearest competitor, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, stands 11 points behind at 13%. Just behind Bush, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson has 9%, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker 8%,Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul 6%, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, former tech CEO Carly Fiorina and Ohio Gov. John Kasich all land at 5%, with former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee rounding out the top 10 at 4%.

Notice who’s not in the top ten.

Jim Gilmore remains an asterisk, making it increasingly likely he will not be invited to the debate at the Reagan Library. The threshold is one percent. Ominously for Bobby Jindal, he’s at asterisk status right now, too.

Logan Dobson points out that “independents that lean Republican” aren’t the same as “registered Republicans”, and that CNN’s article mixes the two.

Deep in the CNN poll, we find Donald Trump has a 31 percent approval rating among all women, 65 percent disapproval.

I’ve noticed Cruz polls poorly in weekend polls. What gives?

CNN headlines - Trump gets no bump in weekend polling. This ignores where he stands.

The polls were broken. Now they have been fixed.

Crispy Cream, aka Christie, is better off staying in New Jersey. If he can get re-elected that is.

Trump seems to be holding steady at 24 - 25% in most polls.

“Logan Dobson points out that “independents that lean Republican” aren’t the same as “registered Republicans”, and that CNN’s article mixes the two.”

Crossover voting is allowed in some Republican primaries, so there is some merit in including them.

I don’t believe Bush is at 13%.

I've noticed that the more liberal the source, the better Jeb does and the worse Ted does... It can't be that they're biasing their polling...nah...'course not...

My guess is that the make up of responders is different,

Lower. Much lower. Sorry—should have made that clear.

I don’t trust any CNN poll.

Look at the mix that CNN uses. Does this really reflect the likely voting public?

++

BASED ON 283 REGISTERED VOTERS WHO DESCRIBE THEMSELVES AS REPUBLICANS AND 183 WHO DESCRIBE THEMSELVES AS INDEPENDENTS WHO LEAN REPUBLICAN, FOR A TOTAL OF 466 REPUBLICANS -- SAMPLING ERROR: +/- 4.5 PERCENTAGE PTS.

++

Lots of Dems in this mix for sure. Cruz, Fiorina and Kasich tied at 5% and Paul beating them all at 6%. Does that make any sense at all? I don't think so.

Rubio polling is all over the place. I still can't figure that out.

Eh, when do they start polling LIKELY primary voters? I think I heard yesterday that only about 25% of registered Republicans typically turn out and vote in primary elections, so I really need to see whom those voters are supporting.

Trump appears to have dropped the mass deportation provision of his immigration plan and now only wants to deport criminal immigrants. How is that playing with the Trump 25%?

CNN showed another poll graphic this morning that the first Republican to drop out is likely to be Perry by 40%. Next, Gilmore.

[Perry’s campaign is out of $$$ and is being run by volunteers.]

[There was a recent FR thread that said Christie will likely drop out by the end of the month, if the $$$ and polling don’t improve.]
