Lefty media (both overt and covert), which has been back on its heels lately thanks to Hillarys impending arrest and prosecution, is already buzzing about the line quoted above, uttered today by Bush in Iowa. Skip to 9:40 of the clip below for the question and his answer in full. On the one hand, Im reluctant to clobber a guy for a poorly worded soundbite when, as here, its in service to a sound point, that Obama and Hillary wasted the security improvements in Iraq circa 2009 by bringing everyone home and then standing around while Maliki fostered sectarian war. On the other hand, Democrats are going to clobber him with it so why shouldnt we have at it now, when its still politically safe on the right to say this is a tin-eared, frankly odd way to describe the state of Iraq for most of Dubyas presidency? (Once hes the nominee and partisan battle lines are fixed, itll be partisan treason to acknowledge that this was a stupid thing to say.) Naval War College prof Tom Nichols:

Bush still seems not to realize none of it happened in a vacuum.
Yes, Saddam was a bastard. But no one realized (or told us) that removing Saddam would basically turn 2/3 Shiite Iraq into an Iranian satrapy. That Sunni’s and Shia’s would rather settle 1400 year-old scores than live peaceably. That the US would need to stay 50 years or more to guarantee peace in Iraq. That the US left would happily rather use and cause mayhem for political gain, which would ultimately give us Barack Hussein Obama.
Jeb still hasn’t figured this out
So, yeb boosh. Your brother lied and people died? Does he believe the lib claims that there weren’t any WMD material. Maybe he has a signed copy of valerie plames book. You know the super secret undercover spy who was outed by Scooter Libby and who’s husband sipped tea and had someone tell him “We ain’t got no yellow cake.”. Even though ‘dick’ armitage admitted he blabbed and gave up the super spy. Go yeb go. Away. If you ain’t goin’ in with the intention of winning all the way, don’t go.
who is the only candidate running on the Republican side who said at the time it was a very bad idea don’t do it?
Bubba proposed Regime Change and Congress agreed. See my previous post Sec. 3
I’ll just have to agree to 100% agree with you on that.
Of course taking out Saddam was the right thing to do, he did have weapons but moved them, just like Iran is now permitted to do with our blessing. Saddam was a murderer and now ISIS is using his gas.
What exactly did killing Saddam Hussein get us? Bush left the douchebag Musharraf and his Muslim terror state of Pakistan alone after 9/11, and went after Iraq. The U.S. has carte blanche after the towers fell, and a chance to reorder the mideast. And he blew it.
Uh, Jeb...now it’s a pretty good idea, but knowing what we know today, you would not have done it?
Sorry, that’s the real “no fly zone.”
Taking out Saddam was precisely what we needed to do...and after rapidly defeating his army, during the occupation and normalization we faced some setbacks and had to make some changes (which always happens in war) we got it done.
That produced a stable Iraq that was well on its way to becoming a bulwark against Iran.
That is, until the American disaster known as Barrack Hussein Obama came along. Obama, with his foreign policy, single handedly destroyed what was accomplished in Iraq and he did it with a will.
Now it is HE who is making noce with ran and the NMullahs.
Gosh darn right, Jebster
The families of the 3,000 military dead and uncounted maimed and disabled are feeling your joy
Waiting decades to take him out courtesy of H.W. Bush turned out to be disastrous.
Um, the Trumpster
And Rand Paul?
I know. I know. Just finished the chapter in his book and listened to last nights interview with Mark!

The invasion of Iraq falls squarely on Reagan.
We agreed to defend Kuwait if they would not invest in a vast defensive military of their own.
Sadam should have been removed in 1991, and we should have immediately withdrawn from the wreckage of Iraq without rebuilding.
That is called a punitive war.
You’re welcome.
Kicking Saddam out of Kuwait was right. Everything after is debatable. Especially seeing the current situation.
Which said twins fighting : ten feet this way
, ten feet that and ten years off to rest ?
Didn’t jebbie high-tail it to mexico to avoid the military?
