Food banks across the country are seeing a rising demand for free groceries despite the growing economy, leading some charities to reduce the amount of food they offer each family.
U.S. food banks are expected to give away about 4 billion pounds of food this year, more than double the amount provided a decade ago, according to Feeding America, the nation's primary food bank network. The group gave away 3.8 billion in 2013.

It’s “food insecurity”.
I stopped giving to food banks when I realized 90% was going to illegals.
What a collection of slugs & @sskissers the MSM is.
Unexpected. (drink)
If there was a GOP President, the MSM would be camped out in front of the White House since 2010, demanding an explanation of the increasing poor and hungry. Since it is not a GOP President, no interest!
What is this, recovery summer five or six?
Just think what they’d be saying about Black unemployment.
Whoa!
You mean if food is free demand is high?
Who knew!
When I drive by my local food bank the line is filled with white-trash losers wearing $130 sneakers and driving fancier vehicles than I can afford.
40 million illegal aliens is a lot of mouths to feed.
Obama is quartering foreign troops on US soil.
And how many candidates are talking about jobs and trade policy? 1 TRUMP
Yeah, such news gets posted to underscore a rotten economy, but the reality is that it’s the crimigrants flooding across our southern border thanks to the team of bush/obama.
Illegals like to eat for free. Honestly we would not have such crises if we weren’t taking care of tens of millions of other countries’ people they refuse to take care of themselves.
We’re taking care of the tens of millions of citizens they refuse to take care of themselves.
Lets use their own phraseology back on them describing the real truth here.
surprising?
Why is anything “surprising?”
First of all, economics 101 tells you the potential demand for anything free is infinite.
Second of all, over the last decades, and particularly under Obama, the USA has created a massive, non-working, dependent under-class. The reasons are many, but overall, the country pays printed fiat money and debt to support at least 50 million non-working adults. Why would they not go for free food as well??
They come in all colors, but not the same percentages.
Excellent word, crimigrants.
Our family doesn’t contribute either. Looks like they have restaurants involved in the Houston area and they are contributing 5 percent to food banks. It’s simply unbelievable. Interesting that they talk endlessly on the same broadcast about the rampant hunger and then the problems associated with rampant obesity. Talking out of both sides of their mouth, reminds me of the global warming issue.
