INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) One suspect is dead and police are looking for multiple others following a police involved shooting on the citys northeast side Sunday night.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said the shooting happened just after 11:00 pm. They said officers noticed a car near East 30th Street and North Chester Avenue that matched the description of a vehicle that had been carjacked. Police say the carjacking happened in the 3100 block of Thompkins Square Court earlier that evening.
Officers say the suspects inside the car were seen shooting at people when they stole the car.
Investigators say officers first followed the car at a safe distance. The car turned down a dead end near 34th and Butler Avenue, and thats when they say the driver accelerated and tried to do a U-turn. Officers then attempted to stop the car, when the driver rammed a police vehicle on the drivers side. Multiple passengers then exited the car and ran westbound.
Police say the driver refused to exit the vehicle and almost hit an officer with the car. They said the suspect began turning the wheel of the car toward the officers and accelerated. At that time officers fired their weapons at the driver, according to IMPD.
They say the suspect then got out of the car armed with a gun and collapsed by the drivers side door. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
IMPD is still looking for the other passengers.
A spokesperson said three officers were involved. They are believed to be veterans of the department.
The officers involved will be placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. This is a standard IMPD procedure following a police involved shooting.
Officials say if you have any information on the passengers who ran from the scene, call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
You say head injury, I say Gumby haircut.
If he wasn't before he will be now.
We should get points for first-on-the-thread with some of these obvious responses. :)
Good point.
I was posting the standard response from the mamas who refuse to acknowledge the thug lifestyle their child chose.
No loss, move on.
It's way past time to have a 10PM curfew for youths under 16 years old in cities. ALL lives matter, and this 15 year old would be alive if someone would've put reasonable restrictions on his activities. If the guardians don't know any better than let a thug-in-training to be out there and dead, then the gov has to do it.
Just another prime example of humanity from the “#blacklivesmatter” culture.
Pillars of society, I am sure.
Exactly! Just another victim of White Privilege! If only whitey hadn't forced him to stuff a gun in someones face to take their property...
That photo was provided by family members. If that was the most flattering and respectable one they could find, I don’t know what to say.
There is a video up at the link with the standard family member foolishness. One young woman said he brightened up people’s days and claims it is a fabrication and there is no way he had a gun.
An older woman said he was a good boy who was going down the wrong path and that everyone makes “mistakes” and insisted the police had no reason to shoot him even if he was an armed carjacker trying to kill them.
And FIRE that gun at his victims.
Oh those zany kids and the jalopies.
The police should have shot the steering wheel out of his hand.
Suicide.
He loved everyone and was such an inspiration to the family.
I noted a very glaring omission in the news reporting!
Where is the headline saying “WHITE OFFICERS”?
Does this say at least one, maybe more are not “WHITE”?
/S
Then we could go out on Halloween as “Obvious Man”
Costume sort of blue tight pants, red shirt, big white “O” in the middle of the chest and cape with Richard Nixon’s picture on it!
Looks like Malonda Lamb is trying to find a "hands up, don't shoot" moment...
As soon as she does, paging Revrunt Sharpie
