Oscar Verner Peterson (August 27, 1899 May 13, 1942) was a Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy who received the Medal of Honor posthumously in World War II for his actions during the Battle of the Coral Sea. Peterson was born in Prentice, Wisconsin and enlisted in the Navy on December 8, 1920. After his initial training, Peterson spent his entire Navy career of over twenty years in sea duty aboard various ships. After American entry into World War II, he had achieved the rank of chief watertender and was assigned to the USS Neosho, an oiler ship operating in the Pacific theater. On May 7, 1942, during the Battle of the Coral Sea, Neosho was heavily damaged by bombs from Japanese carrier aircraft, and much of the ship was in flames. Peterson was part of a below-decks repair party. Despite being already severely burned in the rescue effort, he ignored the probability of incurring additional burns to close a set of bulkhead stop valves in order to save the ship. Neosho was ultimately scuttled on May 11. Peterson died as a result of his burn injuries on May 13, 1942. He was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously for his actions during the battle. The U.S. Navy destroyer USS Peterson was named in his honor. |

Monday morning coffee bump.
Mom is still in rehab, and on pain meds which make her weird. They are trying to reduce it little by little, but keep the pain under control, which is a fine line.
Steve is really suffering, from what I understand, as he has not contacted me. Since I am not on FB, I have to make contact in other ways.
Why am I not on FB? You may ask.
Back when FB first started, I “friended” a lot of bass players, thinking that was a cool thing to do.
One of them was in Cairo, Egypt, and he and his buddies took over my page and began spamming me with Muslim Brotherhood propaganda videos.
I was so spooked, I canned my FB account, and despite new “privacy settings” will, never, ever, ever get back together with them!
Sad thing is, my church, family, and relatives all use FB to communicate, and i am “not in the loop”.
Small price to pay, I guess.
A nice, restful weekend on my end with much cooler weather. I'm working today and then a couple more days off.
Just dang, I just spilled some coffee onto my laptop, LOL, hope it doesn't fizzle out on me.
Well, I joined FB over the weekend to find some old friends and I'm glad I did; found about 6 of them again.
Coffee time for me and then heading out to work.
Have a mahvelous day!
Good morning Pro ((HUGS))
Sorry I’m late; I have a busy Monday on my hands. Getting close to end of fiscal year and my retirement.
I will have to find a part-time job starting early next year. I hate that I have to do this but we still have things to do on the house that need large sums of money.
We had a nice weekend as well. Today is cloudy. We had some rain this morning, which was much needed.
LOL, did son-boy convince you that you had to get on FB? I pop on to check family things (some how I get all kinds of stuff from people I don’t know because they know someone in my family. Grrr), plus put stuff on a local yard sale page, or play games at lunch.
Are you finding friends from high school? Or military?
Have a magnificlicious Monday.
Good morning, Kathy...((HUGS))...had a most relaxing weekend.
All he’s learnerd so far is “Go ouside and go Potty?”
Sit, Stay, Come are still in the learning process.
I recently read it..it's superb...can heartily recommend it
We're home from our little trip to Minnesota.
Little Tann is doing well, resting when he needs to and taking walks as he's supposed to. Everything went better than could be expected, and he should be raring to go by the time school starts at the end of the month (even if he'll have to take it easy a bit).
Thank you, everyone, for you email and your prayers. Makes a difference.
((HUGS))Good morning, LUV W. How’s it going?
Howdy, EGC! (((hugs)))
All is well except for the dental appt I have in an hour! LOL! It’s just a cleaning, but I don’t like any kind of pain!
Hope you and Sweet Bo have a good week! :)
