Ted Cruz’s crowd-pleasing RedState red meat
Atlanta Journal ^ | August 8, 2015 | Greg Bluestein

Posted on 08/08/2015 12:00:04 PM PDT by Isara

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz brought his no-compromise message to the RedState Gathering on Saturday, thrilling hundreds of hardened conservatives who flocked to Atlanta with a pledge to reject “mealy-mouthed statements about acceptance and surrender.”

Cruz received one ovation after another for his crowd-pleasing promises to repeal President Barack Obama’s healthcare overhaul, “rip up and rescind” the proposed nuclear deal with Iran and shower Israel with support.

He vilified Hillary Clinton and other Democrats, but reserved some of his harshest attacks for fellow Republicans who have struck compromises across the aisle.

“What exactly has this new Republican majority accomplished? Nothing? It’s actually worse than that,” he said, ticking through deals struck over budget plans and high-profile Obama appointees. “In this case, our team is playing for the other side.”

He added: “Here’s one simple question: Which of those decisions is one iota different than it would have been with [Democrat] Harry Reid in the Senate?”

Cruz quick hits

Biggest applause line: “I cannot wait to stand on the debate stage with Hillary Clinton. And to make clear if you vote for Hillary you are voting for Iran to have nuclear weapons.”

Sharpest jab at a Republican: “Are you looking for a meaningless showboat, or do you actually want leadership?”

Sharpest jab at a Democrat: “I’m pretty sure the Democrats’ debate consists of Hillary and the Chipotle clerk … They actually did plan to have a debate earlier. The problem was, the invitation was emailed to Hillary.”

Not interested in what anyone says at Red State since they got their panties in a knot and disinvited Trump.

Boo hoo.

How about rallying behind the ONE conservative in the field instead of Donald Fraud?

Trump is conservative enough and he is the only candidate that understands the economy and has a plan to turn it around.

Cruz doesn’t. Cruz tried to give Obama fast trace authority to negotiate even more job killing so called free trade deals with low wage countries.

Cruz helped kill the Export Bank and there goes even more jobs.

Cruz is probably a brilliant lawyer,an excellent cross-examiner, and the best on socials issues of abortion and marriage, but until he understands the economy, he is not ready to be President.

He’s not conservative at all.

He’s pro-choice, a protectionist, pro government health care, and supported a litany of other left wing causes.

You’ve been duped. Donald is a total piece of garbage. Congratulations.

.... I would suggest he understands it better than the crony capitalist billionaire by his friends Trump. He is glad to kill the wastefull ImEx Bank that puts your taxes into subsidies for Boeing worldwide, no thanks. He is legislating to keep ObuttMao from giving away all control and safety of the internet to the UN. He knows future innovation depends on unfettered internet access. He plans to revamp the tax system and get rid of Dodd bill that is killing our lenders the mid to small banks. He knows that conservatives want to be freed from the shackles of govt debt like the Cramnibus spending that few others fought against. Where’s the Donald(Mr. SinglePayerHealth) on taxes? Hit the “rich” with 14% across the board... yeah that shows he “understands” the economy... NOT
Cruz or lose!

Trump is pro-life and has been since at least 2011.

Trump is protectionist and we need protection. We've got 100 million Americans on food stamps, so how is your free trade working out for you? The price of cheap imports doesn't reflect the cost of supporting unemployed Americans. The price of cheap imports doesn't reflect the opportunity cost of having those Americans working, paying taxes, and spending into the American economy. The price of cheap imports doesn't even reflect the taxes domestic producers have to pay. We have tariffs so low there is actually a tax incentive for American companies to off-shore.

you've got government health care now. And Trump wants to repeal it and replace it. Trump has stated that he has never supported socialized medicine. He want's health care that is affordable. As well as some care provided for those that can't afford it. And really we've had that for a long time, whether it was the state run free health clinics or Medicaid or Obamacare supplements.

Saying we have 100 million on food stamps because of free trade just proves that you’re a total moron spewing nonsense about serious issues that you know nothing about.

It sounds like you belong on Democratic Underground.

“The price of cheap imports doesn’t reflect the cost of supporting unemployed Americans”

The price of cheap imports doesn’t reflect the actual cost of the items purchased.

90% of cheap imports are crap therefore requiring more purchases.

I have gone through THREE toasters in the last 10 years and I live alone. My first toaster lasted 20 years and there were seven of us using it for most of that time.

I’d be willing to pay double or more for quality.

Sharpest jab at a Democrat: “I’m pretty sure the Democrats’ debate consists of Hillary and the Chipotle clerk … They actually did plan to have a debate earlier. The problem was, the invitation was faxed emailed to Hillary.”

The again Hillary would have problem with both; lose/delete the e-mail, confusion/nonaction over fax operation.

That's not an option because the good quality American manufacturers were run out of business by the cheap imports.

You'll be paying double any way, when you pay for the toaster, and then for the unemployed Americans through taxes. And then triple when you buy another toaster.

EX/IM is crony corporate welfare at it’s worst. It’s protectionist handouts that had their place at one time and have long since run their course. It’s an easy way to buy and sell politicians. I remain flabbergasted that any true conservative can support it.

Begging your pardon, FRiend, but Mr. Trump said that Canada and Scotland had a healthcare system “that works” during the most recent debate. Ask a Canadian or citizen of GB how well it works...

I don’t think Trump has weighed in on the Ex Bank.

But the bank doesn’t really use taxes to provide a subsidy to exporters. They use the full faith and credit of the United States Government to borrow cheaply and make low interest loans to support the exports. And they sell insurance to protect the exports.

And they make a ton of money in the process.

Of all the things Republicans could cut, to cut something that was returning profits to the treasury ($7 billion over 20 years) and that was helping American companies compete against foreign companies that have their own special financing from their governments, is just stupid.

Red state is irrelevant now. Disinviting Trump was BS. I have no objection to dropping someone for low standing. But dropping the frontrunner because you dislike something he said makes you someone I avoid completely.

Wont read, watch or discuss anything else about Redstate.
