BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- A group of residents in northern Idaho lined up outside a U.S. Navy veteran's house on Thursday to protest claims that federal officials are planning on confiscating the man's weapons.
Idaho Republican state Rep. Heather Scott of Blanchard said the Veteran Affairs office has sent a letter to John Arnold of Priest River warning him that he cannot possess or purchase firearms.
The protest -spearheaded by Scott- attracted roughly 100 people. Among them were Bonner County Sheriff Daryl Wheeler, who promised to stand guard against any federal attempts to remove Arnold's guns, and Republican Washington state Rep. Matthew Shea of Spokane Valley, who described the event as a "defiance against tyranny."
"I took an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution and uphold the laws of Idaho," Wheeler said. "This seemed appropriate to show my support. I was going to make sure Mr. Arnold's rights weren't going to be breached."

There has to be a lot more to this.
What caused the letter to be sent?
What is this person’s mental condition?
I know in MA when someone is declared incompetent (not an easy thing to do) their ability to own firearms is suspended.
I also know that getting someone declared incompetent requires a lot more than “someone” suggesting the person might be crazy.
Methinks there is a lot more going here. the story is devoid of facts and horribly written.

HMMMmmm...
Has he been DECLARED incompetent?
Currently, the Veterans Affairs Department can bar veterans from purchasing guns if they are declared incompetent. However, this authority has been criticized by Second Amendment advocates. Most recently, Republican U.S. Sen. John Cornyn of Texas proposed legislation that would require court action before barring gun purchases by veterans declared incompetent. "This does happen sometimes, where the VA sends out a letter," said Bryan Hult, veteran services officer for Bonner County. "Especially if a veteran has dementia ... and a fiduciary has to be appointed to manage finances like a pension and income. You wouldn't want that person to be in possession of a gun."
He's figgered it OUT!
Not to worry!
The MSM will keep jus informed of how much the PR folks owe per capita: the Greeks; too!
Wasn’t there another BS executive order that read something about if your taking disability from VA or Social Security and had another person handling your finances etc..due your inability to do such yourself ..... no firearms.
A quote from the story ......
“””Obama plans to extend gun background checks to Social Security. The administration will use the same strategy they use to confiscate guns from veterans who have others handle their financial affairs only this will affect a massive 4.2 million Americans. An inability to balance a checkbook could get them banned from owning a gun”””
Recent info I believe. Wonder if he got that letter ?
Damn Obama ...
It’s been my opinion for a while that our best hope is for States/Governors/Sheriffs to put their feet down and tell the Feds and Courts where to stuff it, with willingness to get physical, whenever the “law” ignores the Constitution.
Any decent state should seize every opportunity to reject federal funds for any reason, especially if the federal funds are basically cynaide pills. If the feds want to shove those cynaide pills down Idaho’s throat, Idaho should shove them right back.
The state legislature needs to fear both democratic and non-democratic measures. A dollar for highway maintenance is not worth it if that dollar requires self-mutilation and the proliferation of criminals.

Get a court order. The executive must be reined in. Let his inability to be trusted with a weapon be proven.
” But that cant happen without a lot of blood, tears, and pain.”
Blood washes off, and pain becomes memory.
Good for the People of Idaho.
Stand against Tyranny in every form
Civil Disobedience on every corner by everyone.
If that does not stop it....TO ARMS MY BROTHERS
Most recently, Republican U.S. Sen. John Cornyn of Texas proposed legislation
The Great Citizens of Texas let this Ahole slip through the cracks again and help further destroy America.
He is Mitch’s lil bitch and cannot be trusted
Cornyn proposed that a court order be obtained —before— taking any action against the vet:
“.... Most recently,Republican U.S. Sen. John Cornyn of Texas proposed legislation that would require court action before barring gun purchases by veterans declared incompetent. ....”
Questions:
In which states is it possible to get someone declared incompetent —without— a court order?
In which states is it easy to —get— a court order?
Among them were Bonner County Sheriff Daryl Wheeler
KEY ASPECT OF THIS. The local (elected) constabulary is standing up to federal authorities. Without this, you’re just a bunch of rabble that the feds can mow down as illegitimate.
Insane people should not have guns because they will not be held responsible by the courts if they shoot someone, but that determination should be kicked over to mental health professionals outside of the agency so long as VA hospitals remain a national disgrace.
Cornyn’s bill to kick it over to the court might need a rethink because all they do anyway is to defer to mental health professionals in cases of committment and this man already has a diagnosis. What I think he is owed is a second opinion from an outside source.
Thank you.
The Veteran had a stroke, with “mild physical impairments”.

III Percenters of Idaho are gearing up to stave off any attempt by Federal agents, to confiscate the guns of a Vietnam Vet. Why are they wanting to take the guns of this Vet take a look at video and see. Totally unacceptable!

Here’s a summary of the day from Matt Shea: RECAP OF TODAY:
1. Thank you to all of the prayer warriors out there!
2. The situation ended peacefully and John kept his guns. The VA Field Examiner did not show up today but is planning on coming there next week and we were assured will meet outside John’s house to discuss how to officially declare him competent.
3. The VSO that showed up today is helping point John in the right direction.
4. Sheriff Wheeler honored his oath and sided with the people and the Constitution.
5. Citizens from Idaho, Montana, and Washington stood together in the defiance of tyranny.
OBSERVATIONS - THE VA IS DISASTER
1. There was no follow up by the doctor for 8 months on whether he had recovered. Had this happened we likely would not have been there today.
2. The letter is a final determination by a bureaucrat, without any judge or jury. That is not due process.
3. There was no opportunity to appeal BEFORE his right to bear arms was taken away. That is guilty until proven innocent.
4. They are sending these threatening letters to many veterans (read some of the comments in posts below). How callous to put a massive amount of stress on this man who is recovering from a stroke.
5. This would have turned out different if we all had not been there.
THIS VET IS NOT A THREAT!
IF THEY TAKE THE GUNS OF ONE OF US...
THEY TAKE THE GUNS OF ALL OF US...
If they can, without court review, declare someone incompetent and go to their home and take anything they define as a threat (to their unopposed fiat rule), then the Constitution is no longer defining a rule of law with fealty to said Constitution. The people of America are now getting the ‘government’ they deserve because of their inattention to the responsibility to be the sovereigns. The federal hydra is now the sovereign.
(some folks may not know this yet...)
