However, 25 years later the themes of this film still resonate with Trump's character. A quarter of a century later, here it is. In 1988, Leonard Stern commissioned the film as part of a celebrity businessman series.
Here's a Huffington Post piece about the documentary by its original writer, and here's the press release announcing the online debut-it appears that the film covers some allegations...
Trump grew wealthy during the 80's, the start of the "me generation" of moneymakers, and the "decade of greed". In it, he was revealed to be "the opposite of a small-government conservative" and someone who'd made money "on the backs of taxpayers".
Trump threatened to sue Leonard Stern and his associates when he first learned of the film's existence, and the ensuing ordeal garnered a great deal of media coverage.
A somewhat mysterious trailer-narrated by a man with an epic/hammy upper-crust British accent appeared on YouTube Wednesday advertising a documentary called Trump: What's the Deal? which is said to have been suppressed when it was completed in 1991. ...

This could be interesting. If, and I say if there is anything even approaching Romney/Bain Capital (even if it deals with something in a different area of the ballpark so to say) it may be curtains for Trump.
America will always choose what they perceive to be a corrupt socialist (Hillary), even if this isn't true, over what they may perceive to be a tin-eared --- even if this isn't true.
I was in on the debate in the Super PAC that bought and distributed the Bain film and made it an issue. I was the only consultant to say NO NO NO NO NO WTF are you DOING?
This expose almost certainly is a little different than the Bain Capital film.....all Mitt did at Bain was down size when it was necessary to save a company. Some of those companies rebounded and then UPSIZED. To my knowledge, there wasn’t so much of a crony aspect to Bain or a corrupt aspect. Just the reality of the free market.
If we are to believe this story, and I’m not saying I do, there will be a crony and a corrupt aspect to Trumps ‘dealings. We shall see.
“Watch the Doc Trump Fought Decades To Kill”

Yawn.
I am not one of those Trump supporters that is adamant that nothing will come out on the man's past that is fatal.
But, I will say...issuing payola to politicians to further one's interests is not foreign to American politics.
A PROPOSED Trump response could be: Would you rather vote for the John or the Whore?
Does it occur to anyone what this reveals?
Why were the 80s described this way?
"PRESIDENT RONALD REAGAN"
The Leftist narrative was that if anyone was very successful during this period, it was because of greed and abusing the lower class via trickle down economics.
If it wasn't for guys like Trump back then, the economy would not have rebounded under Reagan.
Trump? Why damn him of course...
What else can you do when you've got guys like Carter and Mondale to champion your cause?
The Huffington Post should tell their readers what Mrs Huffington was doing in the 80`s
Many newspapers said that Mitt Romney lined his pockets with taxpayer dollars -— while in the course of talking about Bain Capital over ten course of time in 2011 and 2012.
These newspapers (online) said that Romney would build a company when a county would chip in dollars and thus get a deal that other businesses in the area did not receive, and thus to the newspapers he was getting an unfair advantage over other businesses. If that id what some call capitalism, then they are sorely wrong.
It was then labeled corporate welfare.
I’ve been wise to the Trump game for 30 years. I’ll pass on him.
The Decade of Greed! Hamburger-flipper jobs! Homeless Coalitions led by Mitch Snyder! Saintly farmers going under! Cher Turns Political! I remember it all, lol.
The scraping sound you hear is the GOPe digging for dirt on Trump at the bottom of the barrel.
The answer shouldn’t be either/or (John or the Whore) if what you say is true?
The answer should be neither/nor?
Wasn’t she married to a queer back then?
“Trump grew wealthy during the 80’s, the start of the “me generation” of moneymakers, and the “decade of greed”
Moneymakers? Decade of Greed? What has this person been smoking?
Whew glad there is no more Moneymakers under Obama. {Ask the Clintons & Obama} and no more greed {Ask every politicians}. Under Big Ears we have unicorns and flying pigs everywhere.
Oops. Should say the (as in “course of time”) instead of ten.
Hard to take this seriously I doubt that any of us are the same as we were 25 years ago.
Live and learn. I know I have.
It's too late. Normal folk are more interested in Trump doing for the nation in the next few years what he did for himself over his career.
A good businessman has to be somewhat of a ‘card shark’ . . and for certain he has to use and sometimes almost abuse in order to safeguard his own company. It should be a pre-requisite for a Prez in these economic times . . that he/she knows how to get the job done for us. It will take craftiness to put America back on top again. Like Trump has said: “I paid as little taxes as I could get away with paying.” Bravo, Trump . . now take that shameless audacity into D.C. and make America Great Again. We need a leader with Chutzpah to spare.
She was married to a gay man for 12 years and still keeps his name.
