The woman now suffers from Burning Mouth Syndrome, loss of taste, numbness in lips and tongue and oral nerve damage, a lawsuit said.

Los Angeles - A US woman has sued famous coffee company Starbucks for more than US $2 million, claiming that she was served coffee which contained cleaning chemicals.

Cheryl Kingery from western state of Utah said she suffered severe damage to her esophagus after drinking coffee from a Starbucks cafe just north of Salt Lake City. According to a lawsuit, Kingery ingested a Urnex specialty cleaning product for coffee and espresso equipment.

She now suffers from Burning Mouth Syndrome, loss of taste, numbness in lips and tongue and oral nerve damage, it said. Kingery is seeking US $1.5 million to cover medical expenses, lost wages and other costs, besides at least US $500,000 in damages for suffering and distress.

Starbucks is taking the claim seriously and is investigating, said a company spokeswoman. "The safety of our customers is our No.1 priority," the spokeswoman said. This is not the first incident of its kind in the Beehive State. About a year ago a woman suffered third-degree chemical burns in her mouth and throat after drinking ice tea mixed with a powerful cleaning chemical at a famous coffee house.

The woman had settled the case out of court with the American coffee house chain for an undisclosed amount of money.

Avoid anything touched by American fast-food workers. They are truly a special breed.

I don’t see why anyone would go to Starbucks. It’s just a THING of image that they have created. Everyone wants to be part of the IN GROUP. Their time is facing fast.

Can we now sue leftist liberals because they have planted poisonous thoughts in our minds?

Might have been the “in group” twenty-five years ago.

Now they’re the “dumb group.”

Most of us can recall a bad incident with food, but by and large food workers in the U. S. do an amazing job.

We hear about something like this once in a while, but think of the literally tens of millions of servings of food delivered every day in this nation to people who enjoy the meals.

I think these workers take a bad rap more often than not.

In this instance, it appears someone screws up, got interrupted while cleaning, or had someone else take over mid-project and they screwed up. For whatever reason, this person seems to have been harmed. That’s certainly a terrible thing and the company should be taken to task for it.

In all fairness, this was probably a terrible mistake with no malice of forethought. One in a great while, s happens.

Correct. But they’re locked in at every airport once you go past customs, especially LAX. Besides, “poisonous coffee” is more original than “damn, it was piping hot and I got burned”..

Well, it tastes poisonous. That burnt flavor makes Barsucks my least favorite coffee house. Last place I would go to.

Sounds like it was tainted with bleach or something similar. This seems to be a credible case.

I know I wouldn’t want to go through such.

Just go buy you some raw coffee beans, put them on a pan and OVER toast them.

Grind them.

Get you a funky paper cup.

Brew.

You have Starbucks.

You owe me a dollar.

How can you prove or disprove this sort of thing? Even if you had the coffee tested, there is no way to prove it did not come from the patron.
