Two airplanes flying near one of the nation's busiest airports each came within 100 feet of a drone on Friday, according to audio from each flight's radio calls.
The first, JetBlue Flight 1843, reported spotting a drone at 2:24 p.m. while approaching John F. Kennedy International Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. In the audio recording, the cockpit says that the drone passed just below the planes nose when the jet was flying at an altitude of about 800 to 900 feet.
Then at about 5 p.m., Delta Flight 407 -- which had 154 people on board -- was preparing to land when the cockpit reported seeing a drone below its right wing.

This is not really a problem because the police, Homeland Security and NSA have an absolute right to spy on citizens ... and that takes precedence over accidentally killing a bunch of people!

Terrorists will take note, and start using drones to take out passenger aircraft. Someone bent on an attack might have been able to guide the drone into the aircraft. Heck, maybe this was a dry run...
I suspect drones will not be legal much longer.

Or some perv trying to gawk at some underage girls that were sunbathing.
While the two sets are not disjoint, there is not a lot to gawk at near Kennedy Airport. (The FAA recommends not operating drones above 400 FT or near an airport.)

Since large airplanes have very stable approaches it is trivial to take one out using a drone. Terrorists no doubt know this and the Obama administration is pushing the FAA to allow drones of all kinds.
Maybe they need to station at airports that guy who shot down the drone over his house
Another huge worry is the use of drones to deliver anthrax or dirty bomb materials into a crowded city, or to deliver poisons into water reservoirs, or to deliver explosives to start fires in forests or cities.
HARM missiles. That’ll fix the problem. Blow the operator to hell.
This could explain why you can never get me on an airplane anymore. Gave it up years and years ago. If I can’t walk or drive there, I’m not going.
I guess not every headline writer got the memo that a "near miss" means they hit. (sigh)
I absolutely detest flying commercial. There is nothing attractive about it.
Recreational use of drones is eventually going to cause some air disaster.
“I guess not every headline writer got the memo that a “near miss” means they hit. (sigh)”
“Near” is an adjective, miss is the noun modified by the adjective. It’s still a miss.
An anthrax aerosol in a crowded street scene would spread more terror than a dirty bomb. Likely it would be more effective.
The possibilities are almost endless... scary stuff.

I recently started Drone Flying. Use some common sense, and you’ll stay out of trouble. I managed to get some GREAT footage, stuff I never thought possible, in the past.
Problem is, you’ve got people out there desperate for fame of some kind, (mostly kids) who keep taking more and more risks to get video that drives hits to their YouTube Channels and Facebook pages.
