Former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore formally announced his bid for the White House Thursday, becoming the 17th Republican presidential primary candidate.
"I am a candidate for president because our current Washington leadership is guiding America on a path to decline, and I can reverse that decline," Gilmore said in a video message to supporters.
Gilmore filed paperwork earlier this week with the Federal Election Commission. His announcement comes one week before the first Republican primary debate, hosted by Fox News and Facebook.
Gilmore, a former Army intelligence officer, served as Virginia's governor from 1998 to 2002.

I never heard of him, but saw him on Bret Baier, and he sounded very promising. He sounded great, spoke very well, and I will give him a chance to make his mark.

He’s a guy running for VP and all he has to do is make a couple of speeches and impress voters that he’s not a nutcase. We used to not worry about the VP pick and they’d just pick no-name guys out of a hat. Now, everyone wants to see the guy way ahead of time and have some idea of his competence.
All that said....he comes across as a fairly friendly character and at least appears to be clever/intelligent. He has some southern charm, and does good at speeches. I’d probably put him onto the list of five good picks for VP (if you want to avoid picking a Senator).

    This is getting ridiculous.

Anyone else wonder if some of these folks enter to:
Give their kids high paying campaign jobs,
Buck for a cabinet post,
Travel on donor’s cash to places they don’t want to pay to,
Repay old political obligations...
