E.J. Dionne Jr.: Differing visions for Kasich, Walker
Omaha World Herald ^ | July 23, 2015 | E. J. Dionne, Jr

"........[Kasich] fought to have his state accept the Affordable Care Act’s Medicaid expansion. He made his case on moral grounds, arguing that at heaven’s door,St. Peter is “probably not going to ask you much about what you did about keeping government small. But he is going to ask you what you did for the poor.”

[Walker] adamantly opposed expanding Medicaid under the health care law,and his speeches are compendiums of every right-wing bromide that party activists demand.

“We need a president who—on the first day in office—will call on Congress to pass a full repeal of Obamacare,”...declared when he announced his candidacy. “Next, we need to rein in the federal government’s out-of-control regulations that are like a wet blanket on the economy.” And on he went.

..Guess which one is seen as a top contender, and which is dismissed as the darkest of dark horses? Which one was running third behind only Jeb Bush and Donald Trump in the Real Clear Politics poll average as of last Friday, and which one was in 12th place with all of 1.5 percent?..........

...in Ohio, the unions could put Senate Bill 5 directly to the voters, and they repealed it in 2011 by a landslide of 61 percent to 39 percent. A chastened Kasich recalibrated.

Walker is best known for a similar attack on public employee unions, but Wisconsin had no provision for a comparable referendum.

The unions felt they had no choice but to organize a recall...Walker prevailed, and he’s been bragging about busting unions and surviving ever since. Conservatives love him for it.

Kasich...reached out to his previous enemies.

When he was endorsed by the Carpenters Union last year,Kasich said:“For too long, there’s been a disconnect between people like me and organized labor.” Walker is as likely to say something like this as he is to sing a rousing chorus of “Solidarity Forever.”.....

John Kasich is now, and always has been nothing but a complete fool. To the extent that he sucks votes out of Jeb Bush’s camp, fine, he can stay in the race. But we don’t need him on the stage in the debates, and we don’t need his message on our side of the aisle.

Well, that seals it for me! Anytime a beltway hack like Dionne gives a RINO approval, then we need to do what our Ruling Class masters say and support the RINO, because by golly, we need those precious moderates to win.

WHO’S GOT THE KASICH PING LIST?

I'm wondering if Kasich's in to assist Jeb! in looking less moderate.

Here's another liberal up in arms against Walker:

Scott Walker: A Threat to Democracy

"Four years ago, I was among tens of thousands of Wisconsinites who made their way to Madison every weekend to march against Scott Walker and his attacks on public education and on unions. We were all ages, ethnicities, political persuasions, chanting: "This is what democracy looks like!" Homemade signs sprouted amidst the snowflakes. My favorite: "He's not a Packer, he's a Steeler." (The Packers had just triumphed over Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl.)..........."

He made his case on moral grounds, arguing that at heaven’s door,St. Peter is “probably not going to ask you much about what you did about keeping government small. But he is going to ask you what you did for the poor.

It takes a special kind of hubris to make the argument on "moral" grounds that taking money from others to help others will somehow get you into heaven. You'd think, at some point, they'd consider using their own money for charity work.

This is what he's going for - the MSM to like it and push this:

Stephanopoulos to Kasich: Is GOP 'Ready to Accept' You Caring About Blacks?

"....STEPHANOPOULOS: Governor Kasich, thank you. You know, he says he's really driven by his faith. He had a dramatic transformation after his parents [were] killed in a car accident back in 1987 and that's fueled him ever since..."

I have to admit, I get a chuckle every time I hear a guy who was a legend as “the keeper of the interns” during Clinton’s regime talk about his faith and the pearly gates.

Out of curiosity...when the poor go to heaven, are they asked what they did to try and help themselves?

Hi CW,

I wIll not pretend to speculate on the mind of God. But I think the premise of Kasich is false. I would think that in his “story” Peter is asking about personal actions to assist the poor. He is not asking what the person forced all others to do in helping the poor. I’ve always thought/believed that admittance to heaven will be based on my own conduct - not the conduct of others. The good works of others can never “earn” my entry. Seems similar to Paul writing about baptism for the dead. It is a futile act. See I Corinthians 15:23-29.

Kasich is a fool and not much of a Christian. In the Parable of the Widow's Offering ["As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small coins . . ."], Jesus does not include a liberal who reached into another persons purse and gave the most of all. That is because there is no virtue in generosity with other people's money, not even if you claim you are doing it for the poor.

People who pretend that Medicaid, welfare, food stamps, etc., are only going to the ‘poor’ are simply lying. And when is even ONE REPUBLICAN going to stand up and shout ‘REPUBLICANS DO CARE ABOUT THE POOR AND BELIEVE THEY DESERVE HELP.....WE JUST DON’T BELIEVE THOSE WHO CANNOT BE BOTHERED TO WORK DESERVE THE SAME SUPPORT’?
