Moderator Frank Luntz asked Trump whether he has ever asked God for forgiveness for his actions.
"I am not sure I have. I just go on and try to do a better job from there. I don't think so, he said. ... I don't bring God into that picture."
Trump said that while he hasn't asked God for forgiveness, he does participate in Holy Communion.
"When I drink my little wine - which is about the only wine I drink - and have my little cracker, I guess that is a form of asking for forgiveness, and I do that as often as possible because I feel cleansed," he said. "I think in terms of 'lets go on and let's make it right.'"

Call it what you want. I call it a backhanded slap. Reducing communion to Oscar Meyer snack pack dining is ridiculous.
Like I said, Trump just locked up the Catholic vote.
Yep. He’s a Presbyterian.
Here’s an extract from Wikipedia:
Trump is a Presbyterian.[6] In an April 2011 interview, on the 700 Club, Trump said, “I’m a Protestant, I’m a Presbyterian. And you know I’ve had a good relationship with the church over the years. I think religion is a wonderful thing. I think my religion is a wonderful religion.”[126][127] A February 2011 Politics Daily article described Trump as “apparently a member of the Dutch Reformed Church, which is a Presbyterian denomination”.[128] Andrew Cusack, in 2008, stated that Donald Trump is a member of New York City’s Marble Collegiate Church. Explaining that church’s organizational relationships, Cusack says “the Collegiate Reformed Protestant Dutch Church is actually a denomination within a denomination” and that the Collegiate Churches are “now part of the Reformed Church of America”.[129] Marble Collegiate Church also states that it is denominationally affiliated with the Reformed Church in America,[130] with the RCA website stating that the RCA has a local church “presbyterian form of government”.[131] Trump does not drink alcohol.[132]
It sure beats “My muslim faith”
I like it. He’s a believer but he doesn’t lay it on too thick(public piety)and knows he’s fallen short on occasion.
Repentance and atonement go further than words, IMO
Trump's not Catholic unless he converted (which I doubt by his comments). I think he claims to be Presbyterian.
People would not vote for Romney because he was a Mormon; and we got 8 years of Obama. Why? Was it because Romney was stupid and incompetent for the office of the President? Because he was corrupt? No, it was solely because Romney was going to a church others didn’t agree with - so we all got Obamacare, 8 years of a lousy economy, worsening unemployment, stagnant wages, an influx of illegals, the worst race relations in 50 years, our enemies emboldened and our allies betrayed - but we kept a Mormon out of the White House. Nice work.
Now, we have people in the party who are looking for a reason to put Hillary in the White House because Trump didn’t address Communion in the way that they would.
If this is the way we behave - we richly deserve everything the libtards throw at us.
Like I said, Trump just locked up the Catholic vote.
I was commenting on OP’s comment.
I’m not going to defend Trump’s answer, because it’s my understanding you need to ask God for forgiveness.
What I am going to do is point out that this is not the sort of question you ask a presidential candidate.
Isn’t it interesting how hard the Left fights to keep religion out of our government, schools, society, but how compelled they are to introduce the topic if they think it can provide them a “GOTSHA” moment?
A lot of Christians will be considering whether to vote for Trump or not, so why not convince them he’s disqualified because he doesn’t believe exactly what they do on a point of religion?
These slimes play every side of every issue to their advantage, and some folks buy in hook line and sinker.
I was being sarcastic.
How dare he call it wine & crackers! That’s almost as insulting as thinking that confessing to a priest is gonna get someone into Heaven!!!
Good luck producing facts to back up the mormon thing.
You're RIGHT. Last week is when he became conservative!!
What a clueless statement.
point taken.
Slowly but surely, Trump will keep talking and will alienate most of the people who ardently support him for who they think he is. How much damage he does remains to be seen. He won’t really hurt himself because he can still socialize with good friends Bill and Hillary.
I am okay, with him not being so spiritual. Too often godly people can be to soft and taken advantage of.
You mean shame on Hot Air - that bastion of liberalism.
Or do you refer to part of communion/the Eucharist as a “little cracker” too?
I’ve seen this in the Baptist church as well.. no wine though, just grape juice.
I’m leaving this thread. I don’t consort with people like you.
