You are all relentless.
We get it. You think McCain is a bad guy. I was not, and was never a supporter of him for President.
But to go back to a time when he was being tortured, certainly injured, and questioning his actions is even low for the folks around here.
Sure Stockdale had given the order. And McCain followed it. Thats a sin?
And you all seem to know what was in McCain’s heart at the time.
Really, this is a low, even for Free Republic who pretend to be all for the Mil, but criticize McCain for following orders.
What that service does not do is give McCain a pass for all of the harm he's done since then.
We’re “going back” in response to the Establishment’s and media’s diatribe against Trump. All of these posts are to throw it back in their faces. They are the ones in false worship of ‘Hero McCain’.
McCain gave something like 31 videos with the communists denouncing the US and its policies. They (the Vietnamese enemy) reportedly called him “the canary” because of how readily he gave up information. Some fellow prisoners claim he was never even tortured.
I am no fan of McCain at all, but the only orders Trump was following was his doctors/fathers in order to avoid Vietnam. Trump is in the same ship as Bill Clinton when it comes to this topic
I agree. McCain is a hero and this is all worthless talk. Trump was flippant and wrong. That was a stupid remark.
Agree. Well stated.
Has McCain EVER said “I turned down an early release because Captain Stockdale ordered me to turn it down”? No, he has not. He has allowed the world to believe it was of his own volition and that makes him a hero.
Was McCain the only POW undergoing continuing ill treatment by the North Vietnamese?
Why is McCain generally disdained by his fellow POWs?
Why is McCain loved by the MSN until he is in an election against a (real) Democrat?
Why was McCain involved in the Keating affair?
Why are most of McCain’s most notable Senatorial actions taken as part of a “Gang of __?”
Is it necessary for a Conservative to “reach across the isle” like McCain seemingly does as routine?
Answering the above questions gives insight as to why McCain isn’t held in very high esteem on these boards, or in the minds of veterans.
Following Stockdale’s order is not a sin, it just puts a dent in the McCain’s self promulgated aura of being a hero, to the exclusion of the others around him.
Often quoted from vets...”No son I was not a hero, but I served in a company of heroes...” Something McCain never says.....
No but letting the myth continue that he refused early release on his own is. McCain is no different than John "F'n" Kerry in that aspect. He let a trumped up incident from his Viet Nam War service persist and then used it to get elected and to me that is just plain sad. Especially when there was no need to so.
Add in the fact that a good many of the guys that were there in the Hilton state for the record that McCain is not Mr. Clean when regarding his comportment in dealing with his captors and suddenly the word "hero" and McCain don't seem to fit together as well.
Then you start looking into his record as a Senator and he gets dirty fast. Word is he didn't get nailed in the Keating 5 incident because of his former POW status. So yeah color me skeptical of "hero" McCain especially when he calls people like me, who are tired of politclowns doing nothing about illegals rolling across our borders en masse daily, crazy.
