What has gone underplayed in today's widespread outrage over Donald Trump's dismissal of John McCain's war heroism is that the GOP national-poll front-runner's comments, besides demonstrating an idiocratic lack of basic human judgment and decency, are also dead wrong.
Because this is Donald Trump, and Donald Trump is a vulgar anti-intellect who cannot string a coherent paragraph together, his full statement contradicts itself several times within 57 short words. So let's just focus on the bolded part from his remarks:
He's not a war hero. He's a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren't capturedOK, I hate to tell ya. He's a war hero because he was captured, OK? And I believe perhaps he is a war hero, but right now, he said some very bad things about a lot of people.
[T]he most pertinent part of McCain's heroism [is that by] all accounts, his noisy resistance to everyday humiliations, and his profane outburst at a made-for-propaganda Christmas service in 1968, gave great strength to his fellow POWs. McCain was an inveterate communicator in Hanoi, tapping code like mad to keep his comrades' spirits up and even acting as chaplain when conditions in the prisons started to improve.

What a 'hero' is is a highly subjective thing.
I'll continue to think for myself, thanks. I will not jump on your bandwagon.
McCain is a survivor. But then I’ve always thought of McCain as dumb as a bag of rocks and a human wrecking ball of the republican party.
I find it most instructive how the 2008 GOP Candidate was mocked by the liberal press for his Nationalism (stopping his campaign for the 2008 financial crisis Senate votes) yet is now praised when the threat to their ‘Dear Leader’ Obama is passed.
And has done zero in public office ever since and called the Republican base crazies. IMO F McCain.
His prior service was admirable but has nothing to do after his incarceration with his future performance in office.
That would be just terrible if it were true.

Back to the drawing board, Matt.
Amazing how the same people who trashed Trump for his immigration statements now love InSain. What are the odds?
Pray America is waking
I’m being reminded daily of why I cancelled so many magazine subscriptions.

Exactly!
Also interesting they have more venom for Trump than Jeb...hmmm?
Or so he says.
Reason.com - - just another liberal **** site.
What he’s done to our country in the Senate has sadly negated all of that
It’s amazing to me how some really lousy political leaders can become heroic icons to the masses due the manner of their deaths, and others can become heroes by being captured by an enemy, and then there are those who boldly go where others have already gone, but their names make them heroes in the eyes of at least the media.
Hero is one of several words in the English language deserving of the most abused award.
I see matt is keeping the false narrative alive. The occupation media must be eradicated with prejudice.
That being said, here goes. I wish Sen. McCainez had as much concern for his fellow citizens as he did for his fellow prisoners.
I'm not questioning or doubting his resilience in the face of daily beatings and other degradations but he sure seems to be rather thin-skinned since then.
Okay. Commence flaming.
How did he comport himself when he abandoned the POWs left behind and sealed the postwar investigative records?
Did someone contact you with the old carrot and stick routine to get you to post this half-hearted defence of that nasty guy? Or are you merely defending you book? It doesn’t really matter, in any event you are defending the indefensible.
Is it just me or does it seem like there has been more outrage expressed over Donald Trump’s comments about El Recto, Juan McCainez, than there has been about the cold-blooded murders of 4 Marines in Chatanooga, Tennessee?
It's bigger than that.
He was offered the chance to go home, the North Vietnamese hoping to capitalize on the fact his dad was CNO, but he refused special treatment and abided by the code 'first in, first out'.
Assailing the service of a former POW when you're draft dodger for the very same war isn't very smart.
Asked why he didnt serve, Trump said, I had student deferments and ultimately had a medical deferment because of my feet. I had a bone spur. But Trump said he did not recall which foot was injured and instructed reporters to look up his records.
