Trump Stands By Past Support For Universal Health Care
BuzzFeed ^ | 07/18/2015 | Andrew Kaczynski, Ilan Ben-Meir

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is standing by his past support for universal health care.

“I want people taken care of in the country, okay? You can call it anything you want, but I want — including people that don’t have anything,” The Donald told radio host John Fredericks in an interview Wednesday. “We gotta do that.”

Trump said in 1999 — when he was flirting with a presidential rub on the Reform Party ticket — that the U.S. should make health care an entitlement and that coverage should be universal.

“I would put forward a comprehensive health care program and fund it with an increase in corporate taxes,” Trump said at the time.

Trump said as president he was going to get people good plans that would have low costs.

“You know, I’m a very conservative guy, I’m Republican, I’m — number one, the people that can do it, we’re gonna get them plans that are so good, and we’re gonna break the borders, we’re gonna go, you know, the private plans,” he stated.

“You know, a lot of people had plans they loved, before Obamacare came along. You probably did. I have friends that had really good plans — now they have horrible plans, and they’re paying five times more for them. We’re gonna get great plans, we’re not gonna have huge costs.

The biggest thing the government has to do is make sure these companies are very, very solvent, you know, that they’re very strong. Because what you don’t want is having a company collapse, right? So that’s the only function of the government. ”

And what are the other candidates going to do? Not a one will scrap obamacare. It would be almost impossible to do now. Can they change it? Yes. But they’re not going to scrap it.

“For KNOWLEDGEABLE CONSERVATIVES, Trump was never the deal at all.”
______________________________________________________________________________

Of course, the Donald is a Con-Lib hybrid. We love him because he’s got some balls and is exposing the liberal bias of the media and RINOs like El Jebo on immigration. But, he will fade when his historical policy positions (e.g. healthcare, abortion, assault weapons ban, etc.) are brought to full light. If he can expose and diminish some of these RINOs in the primary process, we shall owe the Donald a debt of gratitude!

Well if you can find a better candidate who has actually created jobs and wealth in mega corporations that paid healthcare costs for thousands of employees - and who understands how to pull private businesses into meeting needs - vote for them

It's possible to fix the U.S. health care mess, but the '60s hippies who run the country will never do it and, if they're not restrained, will make the mess far worse.

When Clinton was elected President, I was abroad and knew nothing about U.S. politics. The last time I had looked, Reagan was President, and the U.S.A. was on the upswing and had an optimistic future.

When my highly intelligent wife and I first took a look at Bill Clinton, my wife said: "Oh oh! This man is bad news." She was right. She figured him out fast!

However, as a physician, I was delighted to hear how brilliant his wife was, that she was a lawyer, and that she was undertaking health care and would make it work. Was I naive! It didn't take me long to know that she would do nothing of the sort. To begin with, I soon realized that, contrary to the fawning press' reports, she was not "The smartest woman in the world" but was in fact a woman of mediocre intelligence--and worse, questionable principles (to say the least).

As I observed the Clintons, I saw them for what they are.

The U.S. health care system is badly in need of repair. It would be possible to repair it. Perhaps Trump could do it. Leftists never will.

I want to hear details, and the level of government involvement. Is this a privatized market, is it optional? How does it pay for itself.

Trump knows marketing. We know how to read. The left knows "freebies" and "Universal Healthcare" is a key phrase that causes them to salivate uncontrollably. A good marketer will use trigger words to sell a deal.

So let's see what the specifics are.

But yeah, it could be the point where "The Donald" augers in.

Read post 5 and 6. Whether we like it or not. It’s reality and the more we can do to restrict government’s role and increase the free markets the better.

Trump is revealing he is no conservative and he never was. The number of jobs he created and how much health care insurance he gave employees does not qualify him for dog catcher for that matter. Business and government are not the same unless you think it is government’s business to command you as an employee. Business and liberty are not compatible. Businessmen must be authoritarian or they can’t run their business.

The more Trump reveals, the more apparent it will become he is not the “better candidate.”

“telling our senior citizens that no one in this country should be denied medical care because of a lack of funds.”

Who was this socialist that said this?

One guess.

PS-Medicare costs $140/month for those who are retired. And supplemental insurance is another cost that retirees need. Half my SS check will be consumed by the health insurance required. Why do I have to pay for Medicare.......I have already been paying for 47 years for coverage after I retire!

From the linked article....

...Trump added that he didn’t care if he lost votes for his position, saying “you have to take care of poor people.”

“And if I lose votes for that, I don’t really care. Because you have to take care of poor people, you have to take — I mean, think of yourself. You’re really sick, and you’re not allowed to see a doctor; I mean, it’s almost like, sort of, that’s you’re being in hell. So we have to take care of people that are poor. We have to do it. And we can make a plan, we can work a deal — I can work a deal with hospitals that will be great for everybody, and they’ll be able to go there, and you’re not gonna want to do that, and it won’t be pretty, it won’t be as nice as the other, but at least they’re being taken care of.”

Will someone tell me why, with all the money we’re spending on Obamacare and the money hospitals lost on ERs when the uninsured went there we can’t just subsidize the poor?

If we keep a free market insurance and subsidizes Medicaid for those who can’t afford any insurance, it should work. No, everyone wouldn’t have the cadillac of healthcare. However, those at the bottom would still have the same basic care we’re all going to end up with if we don’t stop trying to even things out.

And isn’t the point of capitalism that those who work hard will have something to show for their efforts? The way we’re going now, no matter how hard you work you’re going to end up equal partners with your socialist neighbors.

That doesn’t work, been proven time and time again. And Twitter-heads, news break, everyone won’t have iPhones when all’s said and done because everyone can’t afford iPhones.

Although I'm not suggesting that Social Security be taken away from anyone, the fact is that Social Security is a ponzi scheme which will inevitably fail. Perhaps not in your lifetime, but mathematically it is certain that some people will get screwed.

Here's how it works:

Money was taken away from you for 47 years. It wasn't invested on your behalf, and they didn't "set it aside" for you either. They just took money from you. And they gave to to other, older people.

Today, you receive money from Social Security. The money you receive today was taken from people's paychecks last month. (I'm not saying that's wrong or unfair, I'm just citing where the government gets money.)

Meanwhile, money is still being taken from you ($140/month) and the government is giving that money to people on Medicare. Supplemental insurance too.

It's always the way: Government takes your money and gives it to the people the government wants to give it to.

In a market system, the government would have gotten out of the way, not taken your money for 47 years, and then you might have invested that money yourself to pay for the living expenses you now incur.

The government social spending (including Social Security) gets in the way of that actual solution.

We’ve been subsidizing the poor all along.

I don’t recall poor dying in the streets because they couldn’t get into a hospital.

Hospitals were forced to charge higher amounts to their paying customers to make up for all those without insurance.

Agree. But no one in Washington (repubs and demos) seems to agree.

No matter who it was it is still a socialist rant. We must decide socialism or not. There can be no middle ground.

If socialism then kiss our liberty goodbye, because it is gone.

What do you do with those who refuse to give up their money and wealth to support the socialist monster, you do what Hitler did.

If anyone can figure out a deal like this, it is Trump

Well let's hear how he's going to do it instead of accepting every crazy promise the candidates make at face value?

We’ve been subsidizing the poor all along.

True but it's been off-book. I say, confess to the backdoor healthcare subsidies and make it official. Instead of dismantling the free market, co-exist with the poor. As you said, we already do it and pay more because of the ERs, (hospital costs) Obamacare, and Medicaid.

And if the government really wants to have a seat at the table, cap the damn insurance companies. They're the big business behind Obamacare.

Tort reform

Tort reform is the law in over half the states in the country. Can you point to a single state where health care premiums went down as a result? Not malpractice insurance premiums but health care premiums.
