From the last Morning Jolt of the week: Trump 2008: Bush Is Evil, Talk to Iran, Obama Cannot Do Worse Than Bush
You may have gathered that I remain a skeptic about Donald Trump. Trump fans look at us skeptics with incredulity that we could possibly object to their man, and his ability to change the debate, and force the media to discuss topics like sanctuary cities.
Those of us not so enamored with Trump look at how that quality suddenly outranks all other qualities in a potential Republican presidential candidate including consistent conservatism.
Permit me to remind you about Donald Trumps assessment of President Bush back in 2008: Bush has been so bad, maybe the worst president in the history of this country. He has been so incompetent, so bad, so evil, that I dont think any Republican could have won. Evil? Evil? Of course, in the same interview, Trump endorsed diplomatic outreach with Iran. You know, you can be enemies with people, whether its Iran, Iraq, anyplace else and you can still have dialogue. These people wont even talk to him. Its terrible.
Wait, theres more! Check out his assessment of Obama!
VAN SUSTEREN: The new president-elect, what are your thoughts? Pretty exciting, its always exciting when we have a change of power, a transition, but what are your thoughts.
TRUMP: Its very exciting we have a new president. It would have been nice if he ended with a 500 point up instead of down. Its certainly very exciting. His speech was great last night. I thought it was inspiring in every way. And, hopefully hes going to do a great job. But the way I look at it, he cannot do worse than Bush.
VAN SUSTEREN: We know how you feel about this.
TRUMP: Its not me, its everybody. Its been a total catastrophe. Thats what happened to Republicans. They got run are out of office because we have president thats been so bad. And hes been a catastrophe, theres no question about it. He got us into a war we didnt need. You look at the money, were spending hundreds of billions of dollars on a war, and then people wonder why the economy isnt doing well. OPEC is ripping us off left and right, the oil countries are just ripping us off left and right. So you have wars, you have OPEC, all of this stuff. He didnt do anything about it. He sends Condoleezza Rice. She gets off a plane and waves to everybody and then leaves. Its ridiculous.
VAN SUSTEREN: Governor Palindo you think well see her back in 2012? What are your thoughts on that?
TRUMP: I dont know. Theres a real questionshe certainly made things interesting, but the question is, did she help? I met her a couple of times. Shes really nice. I just dont know. I just have no answer for it. And then heres his thoughts on health care back in 1999
TRUMP: I think you have to have it, and, again, I said Im conservative, generally speaking, Im conservative, and even very conservative. But Im quite liberal and getting much more liberal on health care and other things. I really say: Whats the purpose of a country if youre not going to have defensive and health care? If you cant take care of your sick in the country, forget it, its all over. I mean, its no good. So Im very liberal when it comes to health care. I believe in universal health care. I believe in whatever it takes to make people well and better.
KING: So you believe, then, its an entitlement of birth?
TRUMP: I think it is. Its an entitlement to this country, and too bad the world cant be, you know, in this country. But the fact is, its an entitlement to this country if were going to have a great country. And then, as you probably saw, Trumps post-2012 comments on illegal immigration: Republicans didnt have anything going for them with respect to Latinos and with respect to Asians, the billionaire developer says. The Democrats didnt have a policy for dealing with illegal immigrants, but what they did have going for them is they werent mean-spirited about it, Trump says. They didnt know what the policy was, but what they were is they were kind. Romneys solution of self deportation for illegal aliens made no sense and suggested that Republicans do not care about Hispanics in general, Trump says. He had a crazy policy of self deportation which was maniacal, Trump says. It sounded as bad as it was, and he lost all of the Latino vote,
Trump notes. He lost the Asian vote. He lost everybody who is inspired to come into this country. The GOP has to develop a comprehensive policy to take care of this incredible problem that we have with respect to immigration, with respect to people wanting to be wonderful productive citizens of this country,
Trump says. Yet I see people comparing Trump to Reagan.
Donald Trump has been a conservative for about ten minutes.
Wow dude, hard to make so many mistakes in such a short post. I'll try and clean this up for you. First, I know cripplecreek has a favored candidate, but I also know that he is a very reasoned and long time poster and solid conservative. The same cannot be said for Donald Trump, who is extremely new to this conservative stuff. And I think that's the point.
And second, I know he also has other candidates he's eyeing, so he's far from some kind of kool aid drinker. Moreover, he posts a lot of stuff and comments on a lot of stuff that is not about presidential candidates. I'm sorry you are limited in your scope to just candidate threads. You must be bored three years out of every four.
And third, I never said Donald Trump was bad for politics. In fact, I've said he's GOOD for the process and that he has THE RIGHT PEOPLE's worried.
So my question to you is, why take every comment personally, and why not actually speak to the substance of the comment.
Whatever.

Google "Donald Trump and Wendell Willkie."
You'll get liberals saying Trump's no Willkie (they believe Willkie was a liberal after all and Trump isn't).
And you'll get Trump mentioning Willkie in his book.
To be honest, I don’t even worry about voting. I live in Texas where, by the time the nomination process swings to my state, it’s already over. So basically I live in one of the biggest conservative states in the Union and don’t actually have any say on who will be the nominee. Instead, the mushy liberal states pick my candidate.
Isn’t he getting bashed right now for saying illegal aliens are mostly criminals? He came out pro-life too, and the Oprah thing was a joke.

That want be the case this time around. Texas will hold its primary on Mar. 1, 2016.

Like it or not if it comes down to Hillary vs Bush there will be a third party candidate.
****************
There are 459 candidates out there now. Most don’t have a chance
but they have filed the FEC Form 2 to run as a candidate.
Take a peak.....

I think as a business man, if he gives his word, he’ll keep it.

But, I will be ready NEXT time. Promise.
I AM a little bashful.

Don’t be but I understand. I think it makes for a better forum for lots of
different people posting articles, ideas, etc as opposed to a few doing
most of the posting. That said I don’t post a lot of articles anymore.
Years ago I posted a lot.
Take care.
Some amusing comments on this thread if you didn’t see it.
If you don’t like where Trump stands on an issue, give him a minute.
It kind of reminds me of that Romney thread.
Both ‘Beating dead horses’ threads, GWB, Romney....
Good for popcorn.
I like the Trump effect; because he has people talking. However, I have other candidates in mind as favorites.
