Governor Greg Abbott today released the following statement regarding the Supreme Courts same-sex marriage ruling:
The Supreme Court has abandoned its role as an impartial judicial arbiter and has become an unelected nine-member legislature. Five Justices on the Supreme Court have imposed on the entire country their personal views on an issue that the Constitution and the Courts previous decisions reserve to the people of the States.
Despite the Supreme Courts rulings, Texans fundamental right to religious liberty remains protected. No Texan is required by the Supreme Courts decision to act contrary to his or her religious beliefs regarding marriage.
The Texas Constitution guarantees that [n]o human authority ought, in any case whatsoever, to control or interfere with the rights of conscience in matters of religion. The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees the free exercise of religion; and the Texas Religious Freedom Restoration Act, combined with the newly enacted Pastor Protection Act, provide robust legal protections to Texans whose faith commands them to adhere to the traditional understanding of marriage.
As I have done in the past, I will continue to defend the religious liberties of all Texansincluding those whose conscience dictates that marriage is only the union of one man and one woman. Later today, I will be issuing a directive to state agencies instructing them to prioritize the protection of Texans religious liberties.
The gop faction is about power. Nothing else. Read Orwell.

This is going to drive an enormous wedge among Christians. Which ones will cave and marry gays and which ones won’t? I imagine the Episcopalians will be the first to go, hell I think they’ve been doing it under another name for quite a while now.
The few times that I have been challenged on the issue of gay marriage by libtards, I tell the above story and then point out that (1) marriage is a divinely created ordinance; (2) my wife and I have a biblical marriage; (3) it is something that according to scripture homosexuals can never, ever have; and (4) if they don’t like those facts, they need to plead their case before God and ask him to change his sovereign edicts.
That usually promptly ends the debate.
They will still have to answer to the Supreme Justice the Lord God Almighty.
What hubris the Supremes who voted for this measure have!
Why be troubled by the things of this world? For those of us who know God are not of this world. Before I let my blood pressure hit the roof, I was reminded that I am not of this world’s evils. I’ve been washed in the Blood of the Lamb. I know the final chapter. The happenings of the world are a mote in His eye and of no consequence to me.
Amen.
“JADE HELM”
All those assets. Helicopters, ordinance, equipment all
ripe for Seizure by the state, local law enforcement or
the people.
Amen.
Stand by for the flack.
Same here. After this dreadful week, my husband and I are seriously considering it. (We're currently stuck in The People's Republik of Connecticut)
I know a lib pastor who has no problem with government getting involved and restricting the rights they don’t believe in or like. They think it is impossible for their freedom of speech/religion to be impacted because of the Constitution. They may be in for a big surprise soon.
“If you speak out, you are labeled a bigot.”
So label them back. Ask them to prove they are not a bigot.
Any attempt is just proof that they are. It’s bigotry
itself to call anyone a bigot. There is absolutely nothing
normal about homosexuality. Normal is functioning within
its specific design. Sex is for reproduction, anything else
is deviant (as to deviate). Homosexuality is not only a
deviant but a opposite perversion. The absolute opposite
of normal. Abnormal.
God bless Gov. Abbott. We are stuck with far out Leftist Governor Moonbeam.
That is brilliant.
It won’t be 24 months before the court tries to take a church down for not supporting the “Constitutional Rights” of citizens.
The homosexuals will look for any reason they can to make a case for it.
It’s open season on our churches, and I am not comforted much by Abbott’s comments.
I think he meant well. I think he’s right. I just think this is not over by a long shot.
Those who talk civil war, they may be a lot closer to the mark than anyone realizes at this point.
This is going to blow up in somebody’s face. Just wait and see.
Those who forced this to a head..., they are in for a some serious resistance and I think it may just get extremely ugly.
I don’t advocate for it, but the SCOTUS just forced this on the nation and there are a whole lot of folks who aren’t going to buy into this for a moment.
Are you insinuating that Texas Governor Abbott is a coward?
“They just overruled the California Constitution, so clearly they dont give a flip about state constitutions.”
You are not reading me correctly:
Texas is the one who does not care about what the federal govt does.
“Makes me want to move to Texas!
Same here. After this dreadful week, my husband and I are seriously considering it. (We’re currently stuck in The People’s Republik of Connecticut) “
I lived in Bethel for 6 years and finally got sanity and returned home to Texas.
If you want real sanity, move to Tyler Texas like us as Louie Gohmert is our congressman.
God Bless Louie.
We're there now. Going forward from today, we MUST choose one or the other of those paths. The republic is essentially destroyed.
“Breaking News, Supreme Court rules Texas Constitution unconstitutional.
Breaking News, Supreme Court rules U.S. Constitution unconstitutional.”
Breaking News, Texas just rules the Supreme Court unconstitutional.
Come on, we would love to have you.
lol, had not thought of that, if anyone can Texas can
