Voting against the speakers reelection may have cost one Iowa Republican his seat.
John Boehner has found ways to punish the fractious conservatives who have formed into a thorn in his side since attempting a coup at the beginning of the year.
Through means both petty and significant, Boehner has made his displeasure felt while trying to lead the broader conference in a series of high-profile legislative fights. A number of rebel backbenchers have had their overseas travel curtailed and their committee posts threatened or even taken away. But the treatment of one lawmaker in particular stands out: Colleagues worry that a vulnerable Iowa freshman who crossed the three-term House speaker may receive the political equivalent of the death penalty.
Of the 25 Republicans who opposed Boehners reelection as speaker, leadership was particularly galled by Representative Rod Blum, whom Boehner had stumped for in the homestretch of his bid to replace Democrat Bruce Braley in Iowas first district just months earlier. I was elected by Iowans to stand up to the status quo in Washington, DC, and I refuse to turn my back on them with my first vote, Blum said in a statement after breaking with Boehner.

Not a single moderate who bucks the leadership will EVER be punished. They can vote with the democrats all they like, as long as they vote for Boehner’s “rules”
Boner IS a man to be de-elected in 2016.
Voting is a waste of time we need a third party if only to stop congress..
The guy has so many skeletons in his closet, you would think his opponents would simply hire around 10 P.I.s to troll his secrets and release them to Breitbart, DailyCaller, etc.
John Boehner is not a man. His behavior clearly identifies him as a petty, vindictive teenaged girl.
8th Ohio, Ditch this bastard.
Orange is the new (political) Hack.
Very well said.
“High profile legislative fights?”
Name one fight Boner won for conservatism.
There are a lot of vindictive oligarchs in this administration.
He seems a drunkard.
In that case, be sure that if you do cross him you destroy him - not just stop him.
BONER MUST GO- EVERY 2 YEARS WE GET ANOTHER CHANCE
HE IS PRIORITY #1 FOR CONGRESS
Boehner needs to go. After electing a good President getting rid of him next year is number two priority.
Well I agree voting is a waste of time. But what we need is not a third party. That entails more voting. We can come up with a better idea than that. Wait how about the 1776 solution? :-)
I wish just one person would walk up to Boner and knock him on his butt. Then tell him “You get up without pissing in your pants and I’ll beat the orange off your face. Now start pissin’, Obama’s little boy!”
One good kneecapping incident in the middle of the night from out of nowhere and he will change his tune. It did for Harry Reid. You can’t reason or talk with these types. They think they’re invinible. They need to be reminded that they aren’t every once in awhile.
