ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin said after Friday's talks with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras that a prospective Russian natural gas pipeline should help Greece service its debt, but the Kremlin said the question of direct Russian financial aid to Greece was not discussed.

Speaking of the pipeline deal at a meeting with top executives of global news agencies, including The Associated Press, which began nearly three hours behind schedule at around midnight, Putin said he saw no support for the Greeks from the EU.

"If EU wants Greece to pay its debts it should be interested in growing the Greek economy ... helping it pay its debts," he said. "The EU should be applauding us. What's wrong with creating jobs in Greece?"

Any country in the EU is going to be over-run by migrants that destroy centuries of history and tradition. If Greece just DOES IT and leaves the EU, perhaps they can avoid the same fate.

From what I understand Ukraine isn't in much better shape than Greece.

IMF Humiliates Greece, Repeats It Will Keep Funding Ukraine Even If It Defaults

"What's wrong with creating jobs in Greece?"

In principle, nothing. However, in socialist train wreck states like this, a job is an entitlement. It guarantees income regardless of actual consumer demand, job performance, and output. Without any real basis in economic need, you just end up in the same place later on.

Of course Putin is looking out for Russia’s interests. That is what governments are supposed to do. I wish our government would look out for American interests.

Russia has been supporting Assad for years trying to prevent the Arab States from building a gas pipeline to Europe. It looks like Assad may fall and Russia needs another “stopper” to plug gas routes from Arab nations and the new gas player in the region, Israel!

That’s one way to get a warm water port and a foothold in Southern Europe.
