There were 23 homicides and 39 nonfatal shootings in Baltimore in May 2014. Through 29 days of May 2015, there were 42 homicides and 104 nonfatal shootings. Gulp.
Why are arrests down so sharply? Some cops may fear that criminals have turned more aggressive and confrontational after a year of high-profile allegations of police brutality, from the protests in Ferguson to the assassination of two officers in New York to the riots over Freddie Gray in Baltimore. Jack Dunphy, a cop himself, noted in a piece for PJM last month that crime rates are up in multiple major cities nationwide. Can’t be a coincidence. For other officers, it’s not fear of perps that drives them but of the DA: Watch towards the end of the clip below and you’ll hear Brooke Baldwin say some cops told her they’re more afraid of being charged by Marilyn Mosby if an arrest goes bad than they are of being killed in the line of duty. Even Baltimore’s police commissioner acknowledges that concern:

Well done coppers. They wanted it and they got it. Stay in the parts of town that appreciate your work and if you are passing through a high crime area and see something, look the other way, keep moving.

Only liberals could believe that softer policing would lead to a decline in crime. Liberals live in a fantasy world of no consequences.
But what does the soaring crime rate say about the population that inhabits Baltimore? Why is that question never addressed by anyone?
My sympathies to the law abiding citizens in these areas.
The next time there is an “incident”, the law abiding citizens need to take to the streets and run the rioters and outside agitators out of town.
Maybe it’s time for separate but equal police forces. It does seem to be what these overwhelmingly black communities are asking for.
Bah...indict cops for making legitimate arrests and this is what you get, regardless of whether they belong to a union(bah) or not.
(1) Institute "shall-issue" CCW in Maryland.
(2) Declare that for any alleged self-defense shooting, involving someone with no criminal record shooting somebody with a felony conviction, the shooter will not even be investigated "due to resource shortages".
