So the issue isn't that they were breaking the law, only that they got caught. With high standards like that, what could possibly go wrong?

Lots can pass a test, and lots don't have criminal records.

But Affirmative Action ensures that those ones will get hired by Corporate America, anxious to meet diversity goals, at a salary that exceeds what the police force will pay.

That should do it for Bratton. That’s equivalent to then Havard president and Fed chairman candidate Larry Summers saying that women being under-represented in the sciences was due to natural differences from men.
