In recent days, an ominous sign has appeared throughout Texas. "Eggs [are] not for commercial sale," read warnings, printed on traditional 8 1/2-by-11-inch pieces of white paper and posted at H-E-B grocery stores across Texas. "The purchase of eggs is limited to 3 cartons of eggs per customer."

We buy more than 50% of our eggs from friends who raise chickens.
It’s not just that-—the egg is the most easily digested protein with the most complete amino acids——almost a perfect food for the brain.
Hmmmmmm——why would the Leftists want children to have no fat and no meat and now no complete amino acids???? (FDR—nothing happens by accident).
First thing that cults do to brainwash members is remove meat and eggs from the diet of their victim.
OK-—I know—— you are asking “Who am I”?????
Just a stay-at-home mother of five (grown) successful kids now who ate eggs every day, who reads copious amounts of literature/great books (had a Classical Education—although a water-down “Catholic” one) who has no brainwashing machine (TV ) in my house-—nothing that artificially controls my emotions to determine what I “feel” (No Edward Bernays/Goebbels mind control which just Repeats and Repeats lies—over and over— words like “homosexual” marriage for two decades (irrational concept that destroy language and Reason) and it becomes the Truth-—since little kids grow up hearing that insane, irrational term that deforms Truth and Reality.
I study philosophy and history/biographies and Wittgenstein is the most profound thinker of the 21th Century. Understand him and Fichte and it ALL makes sense. You will emerge OUT of Plato’s Cave. Warning: you will never be able to go back into the Cave and it is a little lonely without the books and God. Better fortify yourself with both and you will love life. It is like CS Lewis says-—Absolutely Full of Joy.—no kidding.
As Milton says-—the Mind can make a Heaven of Hell or a Hell of Heaven.....it is the MIND-——and YOU have to cultivate the Mind (which includes the Desires) of your children and grandchildren so they mature. Example and Real Life experiences are key. Beware of what is lodged into the brain by media (the Amish knew what they were doing). You do not want the mind warped like the Weimar Republic did to the Hitler Youth. Ideas matter; what children do and habituate matters-—their actions and experiences matter-—and sitting in front of screens is deforming—not just to the physical body but to the formation and integration of the brain (and in the ability to use the brain as it was designed to work).
We are dehumanizing children in this ‘popular culture” exactly the way the Prussian system did to German children. Herding and grouping the minds to program like they are Pavlov’s dogs.
I’m just happy DeepintheHeartofTexas has a good sense of humor!!
Nowhere do I see any explanation of how this disease spreads. It is not as if the birds go on road trips or take a plane ride. WHO travels from one farm to the next thus spreading the virus? Or is it windborne?
and it is not just affecting the chickens- the avian flu is decimating turkeys as well. There’s going to be some serious sticker shock when folks go to buy the Thanksgiving Turkey this year.
I can't stomach our Weeni-In-Chief , but Geez! Trying to hang this chicken mess on 0?
If Homobama was involved in trying to torpedo the US chicken/egg supply, as inept as he has shown himself to be, we'd be up to our azz in chicken and eggs.
Don’t forget the impact of the new California laws for chicken houses. California used to be a large chicken and egg producer. The new law is killing that. So our prices go up to supply the fruits and nuts.
From a January 1 story about the new law:
I expect when eggs settle out eggs will be between 10 and 40 percent more expensive for consumers, he said.”

... The migrating wild birds that spread the virus are the dabbling ducks, which get infected as they float on water and nibble on food just under the surface. They don’t necessarily get sick but can spread the virus in their droppings which are dispersed even further in water.
That made for a bad combination in Minnesota, which has nearly 12,000 large lakes and countless smaller lakes and ponds.
“If you have got migratory birds and they stop at different locations on open water, it is pretty easy to understand,” Shere said. “This virus can live in the water for up to 130 days.”
And once one farm was infected, lateral spread took over. That’s when the virus gets spread by other means - perhaps other wild birds carrying it on their feet, rodents carrying it on their feet, trucks carrying it on their tires, farm workers or contractors carrying it on their boots...
I actually don’t mind blaming it on him; as well as other things such as the common cold!
But the facts are (as I know them); the govt has nothing to do with what’s going on now.
Most viruses run their course and are gone over time.
For instance last year, we had a very nasty virus that killed baby pigs. It burnt itself out; and now the pork industry is facing a oversupply coming.
Fresh. free foraging, nutrient rich, don't need refrigeration - The way eggs are supposed to be...and they're pretty besides
Found an old Shotgun News. In 2004 you could still buy an SKS for $99 and 1,000 rds of Russian ammo for $89.
They might need refrigeration if you lived in a warmer climate.
It took until your post #50 until anyone mentioned it.
Only commercial caged for their entire life with barely enough room to stand, standing in feces chickens are being culled.
If you buy eggs from healthy pastured chickens who roam all day in the sunshine, eating natural things that they should, you aren’t affected. And those are the delicious eggs that are healthy like real eggs should be. My eggs I buy from the farmer’s market look like yours in the picture. I’m not worried.
Because they don't want to lose their customer base over a temporary shortage.
If they make eggs too expensive instead of limiting purchases so that everyone can still do their shopping in the store, knowing that they can also get their dozen eggs, then the people will move to another store, where they can fill their entire shopping list for that week.
As far as I know all eggs stay fresher when refrigerated.
“”6. Cool and dry eggs quickly after washing. Store eggs, large end up, at 50-55°F and at 75%
relative humidity. If eggs sit at room temperature (75°F) they can drop as much as one grade per
day. If fertile eggs are kept at a temperature above 85°F for more than a few hours the germinal
disc (embryo) can start to develop. If fertile eggs are kept above 85°F over two days the blood
vessels of the embryo may become visible.
If eggs are stored properly in their own carton or other stable environment they should hold a
quality of Grade A for at least four weeks.””
The most important corollary: high prices cure themselves.
All central planners, politicians and control freaks, but I repeat myself, must memorize this. But if they won’t, then the citizenry should.
Natural disaster - let the prices rise, gouge people and report it a publicly as possible. That $100/lbs. bag of ice will quickly return to normal if the above is followed.
Otherwise, you get Katrina and NOLA. I rest my case.
Didn’t see any signs rationing eggs at my local HEB today,,oh and the prices are up.
So truuuuuuuuuuuuue.
But is it really that hard to figure out? Can't people put their emotions aside for ten seconds and think? It's soooooooooooo frustrating.
Price gougers!!!! Aaaaauuuurgh!!!!! Run for your lives!!! Film at 11!!!
you posted: “They might need refrigeration if you lived in a warmer climate.”
ahaha - I might also need refrigeration in a warmer climate.
Our eggs are ‘unwashed’ - and retain nature’s protection. I only get a doz. at a time- unless some extra cooking is in the the offing.
One of the greatest tips for cooking/baking: USE ROOM TEMP ingredients - like milk and eggs....This is my secret - one of - to making the best Yorkshire Pudding and/or Dutch Baby Pancakes. (I got my Yorkshire Pudding recipe form and English Lady friend - who died at 103 in 1999 (born in 1896, remembered Queen Victoria’s funeral cortege!) - who’s recipe went back at least to her great grandmother - so back to the early 1800’s and who knows how much further back - and they didn’t use refrigeration back then-nor for thousands of years back...)
If I think perhaps I have a egg that may have turned, I use the simple water trick.
I so want my own laying hens - and some guinea fowl to eat ticks! - but my dog is a ‘small game” hunter. They wouldn’t fare well.

Let the market decide and keep the government out of the egg business. If some groceries want to limit the number of eggs purchased let them, but it is really a meaningless exercise. What is to keep customers from just going to another store or coming back at a later time to buy eggs? What I fear would be a government egg bureau that would ration eggs and by doing so stifle future production and the end to shortages. Price rations and while I love my breakfast eggs I would quit buying eggs if the price becomes too high. High prices however will spur egg producers to push rebuilding flocks and take costly precautions to preserve existing flocks.
