In recent days, an ominous sign has appeared throughout Texas. "Eggs [are] not for commercial sale," read warnings, printed on traditional 8 1/2-by-11-inch pieces of white paper and posted at H-E-B grocery stores across Texas. "The purchase of eggs is limited to 3 cartons of eggs per customer."

The article details some sort of virus that has affected birds. The virus, though, isn't the sole cause. If we were pursuing economic strength by liberating the markets, there would be greater resilience....frankly, I think Team Obama has injured every sector of the economy (except gun sales)....
don’t let “the man” on your property w/o a warrant
All the laying hens got murdered - there has been a vast decimation of domestic chickens.
We shall have to be importing eggs from China and Mexico....
So far, 44 million or so chickens have been culled because of bird flu. That is a significant proportion of the laying population. Simple economics: when supply drops, prices rise.
It just isn’t eggs. Many things have gone up. Living under Obama has been good to us.
That and production methods have been altered by California law limiting the size of cages and how birds are housed. The regs cost money and lowered production. It didn’t just affect CA anyone wanting to sell in CA had to fully comply as well.
Somehow a scene from KING RAT comes to mind.

Wow, sometimes I feel like I’m living in the Soviet Union. BTW, I guess we’d have to get our own chickens or ducks for eggs. A friend of mind has pet ducks, Pekins, Mallards and I think an Indian Runner or two. He gets eggs from them. A few years ago, Mom and I made chocolate chip cookies from duck eggs and they were the fluffiest cookies I’ve ever ate.
I don’t think people are appreciating just how many foods require eggs, from bread on up the line. Already hard to find lunch out much under $10.00, wait until this hits the restaurants. Packing lunch at home will become a necessity for a lot of people.
—as an aside to the bird flu situation, too bad the producers didn’t just put a note on the egg carton saying “Not for sale in California”—
The Movie “The Egg and I” too.
Commercial laying population of chickens is around 300 million.
--the increase in the price of eggs is caused by the same economic factor as the increase in the price of beef--less supply, so the price goes up---as the last few months have proven, it even applies in reverse--see the price of oil for an example--
Living here in Iowa; not seeing how an egg shortage has anything to do with Obama or any other politician.
There is a nasty virus carried by migratory birds that is wiping out farm after farm in my state; one of the largest egg producers.
A vaccine is being worked on; plus warmer temps will likely end the virus soon and the farms will be back in production soon.

That’s the understatement of the day. Seen how much health insurance premium costs are going to skyrocket on renewal? Some more than 60% premium increases.
