We're all suckers.
That's what dawned on me suddenly the other night. I'd just filed a column on how some social conservative writers are responding to Caitlyn Jenner's coming out as a woman on the cover of Vanity Fair. I hadn't given in to the sanctimony that's characterized so much of the commentary about Jenner and her transgender struggles, but I did try to explain why many liberals are inclined to refrain from judgment and even to celebrate this watershed moment in American culture.
And then it hit me: Like everyone who's talked, written, posted, and tweeted about this event, I've been taken in by a publicity stunt.
The guy who enriched himself by bringing our culture the sordid spectacle of the Kardashians is now a gal who's promoting a new reality show, and she's trying to ensure that it gets the highest ratings in the history of trash TV.
With the magazine cover inspiring a national conversation, a slew of banner headlines, and millions of people to follow Jenner's Twitter account in the first three days of its existence, I bet she succeeds.
But please, let's be honest about what this means. For one thing, and despite what a number of people appear to believe, it's not especially "brave." Or at least no more so than any celebrity publicizing personal tribulations in order to make money. Is it courageous when an actress who has just emerged from rehab after nearly killing herself with drinking and drugs gives an exclusive interview to a TV news magazine in the hopes of generating buzz about an upcoming movie release? Nah, it's just PR, ad copy in another form.
That's exactly what Jenner is giving us — and she's doing it masterfully, playing off America's addiction

This has been a media frenzy. “Us” had nothing to do with it. I personally turned it off.
No matter what he gets cut off or what hormones he gets injected, he is not a she. He will have male DNA until he dies.
And he’s not a “conservative”. He doesn’t even want to conserve the sex in which God created him. I suppose the left is going to try to co-opt that word the way they did the words “gay” and “queer”.
Oh, well. One less white male in the world. The left will be happy about that!

As I posted elsewhere, I'm going to laugh my ass off in a year or so when "Caitlyn" Jenner returns to the world as Bruce in an exclusive interview.
Yeah, right, didn't want it, sure he-she- it didn't want the publicity! Sure! Snort!
Duh. Liberals are the stupidest people on the planet. And at the very bottom of the Stupid Stack is ESPN that in the heat of passion for yet another sexually disfunctioning athlete is giving the Arthur Ashe Courage Award to Jenner.
Us? Maybe you, not me. The man is mentally ill, and yes, even though he could star in a freak show now, he is still a man.

Yep. Same here. I don’t have TV. The only stuff I read about it is here on FR. And the whole thing, to me, is a comedy farce.
It’s not the end of times, it’s just the Return of the ‘70s. The liberal ‘70s kids are all grown up, in positions of power, and so all the trappings of their youth — sexual “liberation”, radical environmentalism, racism, legalizing pot, etc. are back for an encore. It’s stunning to watch a few “All in the Family” reruns and realize the concerns of that era are EXACTLY what’s going on today. Hopefully, the Return of the ‘80s gets here soon. But hold the disco!

I merely said I TURNED IT OFF. I had to dodge it on TV news, had to turn off Rush Limbaugh, which I seldom do. No one could escape, which was my point. But, I was exposed to it the most on this site. Am I, now, supposed to get your permission to say something on this site? ...you “funny poster.”
