General Electric is exploring a move from its Connecticut headquarters after it objected to tax aspects of the state's recently passed budget.
The Connecticut legislature on Wednesday approved a $40 billion budget that would increase some business taxes. In a Thursday email provided by GE, CEO Jeff Immelt told Connecticut-based employees that he has put together a team to evaluate a move to another state with "a more pro-business environment."
Immelt claims the company's state taxes have increased five times since 2011 and the new budget would impose "significant and retroactive tax increases for businesses." GEwhich employs more than 5,700 people in the statestarted to consider the move "after a lot of thought and in the context of our ability to compete," he said.
"I believe we should pay our fair share and that all of us should give back to our communities. But, we can compare Connecticut with other states where small and large businesses have a better environment to thrive and compete," Immelt wrote.

I thought GE hid all their profits and did not pay taxes? At least they pay no Fed taxes.
You’re entitled to snicker a little bit since you do have a slice of GE with their locomotive building business in Fort Worth. It will certainly be a belly laugh to grab the corporate HQ to join the others in Dallas.
Hard to believe a small state like Connecticut has a budget of $40 billion.
Connecticut’s budget is determined by the amount of money they expect to gouge from Business and the Taxpayers.
GE leaving will put a dent in the state’s plans. If United Technologies leaves, look for an even greater mass migration from CT.
