For the first time in the history of the school lunch program, all children in Baltimore are created equal..
Beginning this week, every student in the city, regardless of income level, is being offered free breakfast and lunch under a federal program that allows school districts to eliminate a decades-old meal-subsidy structure for students in high-poverty schools.
Baltimore is among a handful of districts in Maryland taking advantage of the opportunity that was opened to schools nationwide last year. Maryland schools are able to adopt the program under state legislation passed this year in the General Assembly.
Del. Keith Haynes, chief sponsor of the legislation, said Tuesday during an announcement at Beechfield Elementary/Middle School that the law is the "great equalizer" for city students, closing one more gap that exists from socio-economic disparities.
"We know that nutritious, balanced meals has a direct correlation to positive outcomes for our students," said Haynes, a Baltimore Democrat. "And we know not everyone has access to that."(continued)

Those welfare moms will have more SNAP money to spend on smokes, liquor, crack and lobster, though.

At least some taxpayers may benefit from this; these municipal governments (in fact, government at all levels) have no expectations whatsoever of our permanent unassimilated urban underclass. They regard the most dangerous place for these children to be home with the people who bred them in exchange for a life of leisure...

Maybe those SNAP payments will be reduced by two-thirds.

If you get something for free, it’s because somebody else paid for it.
It’s not a “Free Lunch”.
It’s a “Tax Lunch”.
It should be marked as such.

Who is paying for this? What is next, room and board for all children at a government internment, sorry, housing facility where they can be indoctrinated sorry again, taught what is right and wrong? The children are not yours, they belong to the government. Where are the parents? Do they not have a role and does that not include feeding them? Sorry for asking.

All of the public schools in our town save for the high school are 100% free lunch. Apparently in Ohio after you reach a certain percentage of free lunch students thew just throw in the towel and make it all free lunch.
On a related note a friend of mine is a custodian at the local High School. He stopped by 2 days ago and gave me 2 huge bags of lettuce 4 plastic containers of salad tomatoes and a huge bag of spinach. The discard date on the items was June 12th but our schools were just throwing them all away because it is the law apparently. He said he had delivered 12 of those bags of lettuce and 20 tomato containers to family and friends before he stopped at my house. All of it was to be thrown in the trash.
I know the woman in charge of the school lunch program at the High School and asked her about it and she is compelled by the gub'ment rules to throw all of it away and she says it makes her sick but if she does not comply she can be fired. It is a grey area for the custodians so they end up taking it to family and friends just so it doesn't end up in the landfill.
