All of the public schools in our town save for the high school are 100% free lunch. Apparently in Ohio after you reach a certain percentage of free lunch students thew just throw in the towel and make it all free lunch.

On a related note a friend of mine is a custodian at the local High School. He stopped by 2 days ago and gave me 2 huge bags of lettuce 4 plastic containers of salad tomatoes and a huge bag of spinach. The discard date on the items was June 12th but our schools were just throwing them all away because it is the law apparently. He said he had delivered 12 of those bags of lettuce and 20 tomato containers to family and friends before he stopped at my house. All of it was to be thrown in the trash.

I know the woman in charge of the school lunch program at the High School and asked her about it and she is compelled by the gub'ment rules to throw all of it away and she says it makes her sick but if she does not comply she can be fired. It is a grey area for the custodians so they end up taking it to family and friends just so it doesn't end up in the landfill.
