Supreme Court sides with Muslim job applicant turned down after wearing hijab (Sharia at SCOTUS)
Alaska Dispatch ^ | June 2, 2015 | David G. Savage - Tribune Washington Bureau

Finding a civil rights cause that increasingly brings together conservatives and liberals, the Supreme Court told employers Monday that they had an "affirmative" duty under federal anti-discrimination law to accommodate the religious practices of employees and job applicants.

By an 8-1 vote, the justices sided with a 17-year-old Muslim girl who was rejected for a job at Abercrombie & Fitch because she wore a head scarf.

The court's liberal justices have long championed religious minorities in discrimination cases. But as Christian conservatives have more frequently been put on the defensive over issues such as abortion and gay rights, the court's conservatives have also embraced claims of religious liberty.

Last year, a conservative majority ruled that the religious owners of the Hobby Lobby chain of craft stores did not have to comply with a government mandate to offer certain birth control methods as part of the company's health plan.

I never thought I'd live to see the Supreme Court of the United States hand down a ruling based on SHARIA LAW. But here it is, folks.

How come accommodating religious practices stops at making cakes?

So Muslims can have their freedom of religion to force their beliefs on companies, but Christian owned businesses are denied their freedom of religion and can be FORCED to participate in homosexual weddings?

How about job safety? Couldn’t this headgear interfere with wearing required safety equipment and be an OSHA violation? What about employers who require the wearing of uniforms? Would this head covering be an infection hazard in healthcare facilities? I know in Minneapolis Somali Muslim cab drivers have refused riders with service dogs and grocery clerks have refused to scan pork products. None of the rest of us could get away with crap, but we must kowtow to Muslims.

Suppose head scarfs became a fashion trend and took the country by storm?

At a fashion store no less.

If you can’t set the atmosphere and market an image in your clothing line stores, then we are really deep into it.

Would the SCOTUS have ruled the same way in 1942 on a Japanese woman wanting a job at some store and being turned down?

Oh my goodness its not Sharia Law. Would you feel the same way if they ruled in favor of a kid wearing a yarmulke?

You guys are so fast to ridicule anything that is not Conservative, Protestant Christian.

There is a whole wide world out there.

and A&F did not hire her because she was probably ugly, but they could not say that. That store is just horrible to work for anyway.

At Abercrome and Fitch? Really? Is the head scarf going to get in the way of them ignoring you when you go into the store?

Probably not because the decision was based partly on the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

You mean, back when a black man could not get a cup of coffee at the same counter as you in Mobile Alabama? That country?

Or when a catholic couldn’t get elected because people thought they would become an agent of Pope?

Or during that time, not so long ago, when people were stuffed into ovens in Poland because they were circumcized?

Yeah, lets go back to that time.

Because most states and communities expect equal service to customers when they issue a business license.

Play it right back at them.

Go to moslem stores and demand they carry pork products. If you go to a store where there are muzz checkout staff, buy a bunch of pork products and have the muzz ring you up. They’ll have to pick up your chops or bacon to scan it, etc.

We can probably make a long list of Moslem religious practices that have already, or will become some sort of challenge in the workplace or elsewhere. This is what’s so stupid about the ruling. Islam actually has a large number of specfic practices whereas most other religions don’t. Just a few I’ve heard about:

1. Moslem cab drivers refusing to allow passengers with dogs, even service dogs.

2. Moslem clerks refusing to handle pork products in a supermarket.

3. Refusing to remove head covering for driver’s license photo.

4. This claim of discrimination concerning the head covering at A&F.

5. Demands for a special prayer room in schools and other areas.

6. Demands for time off to pray during the five times per day that fall within school or work hours.

7. Refusals to handle pork if working in a restaurant will certainly be an issue if not already.

8. And the don’t draw Mohammed prohibition.

9. Demand to have their prayer call blarred five times per day from mosques.

How many Moslem practices will they try to use to gain special treatment at school, or in the workplace, or elsewhere in society?

I’m sure there are more.
