Health insurers seek big premium hikes for ObamaCare plans in 2016

Dozens of health insurers selling plans under ObamaCare have requested hefty premium increases for 2016, according to preliminary information published Monday by the White House.

The insurers have cited higher-than-expected care costs from customers they gained under the ObamaCare's coverage expansion and the rising cost of prescription drugs and other expenses as reasons for proposing the increases, many of which are in the double-digit percentages.

Among the market leaders, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina is seeking a roughly 26 percent premium increase, while plans in Illinois and Florida, among other states, are asking for hikes of 20 percent or more. In Pennsylvania, Highmark Health Insurance Co. is asking for a 30 percent increase.

The preliminary requests were announced as the Supreme Court prepares to rule on the validity of ObamaCare’s tax credits to offset the cost of premiums for lower-income consumers in most states in the country.

“serves every shitforbrains who voted for the commie muzzie traitor right...”

Most of them don’t pay:

1) Medicaid eligibility expanded under ACA - a free entitlement.
2) Subsidies
3) Most people on employer health care plans won’t see the full impact of the increases since the employer absorbs some of the increase.
4) Medicare recipients - unaffected

This leaves those who pay 100% of the premium, and are not eligible for subsidies, bearing the full impact of these increases. A population of about 10 million people. An inconsequential voting block which is why the Dems don’t care and the Republicans are taking no action to repeal the ACA.

My Medicare supplement went from $40 to $100 plus the $105 they take right out of my SS check.

#2, subsidies are taxable, so those that get them are getting a huge wake up call (they won’t get as much free money from uncle sugar at tax time anymore).

#3 In whose world is that happening? For the last 5 years the cost of both mine and my wife’s employer sponsored health insurance has gone up while coverage has decreased and out of pocket expenses have skyrocketed. a few years ago my premium went up by about 100%, then the year after that 200%, then it has steadily climbed by at least 25-50% every year since.

I know what my employer pays out for their end of it because they send a statement that shows what they pay (annual compensation statements). That hasn’t hardly budged.

From each, according to his ability to pay.

To each, according to how many times he votes Democrat.

Meanwhile, out on the streets, the quest for the minimum wage increase to trigger the general wage inflation needed to pay the increased Obamacare costs are lagging. Some would even say failing.

The totally corrupted left wing cities that have created the raise on their own have yet to feel the consequences. Wage controls always have serious consequences. Along with the brownie points for raising the wage minimum will come economic contraction that might just kill the cities of Seattle and LA.

Oh, to be a fly on the wall at the NSA and overhear the threatening Mafia shakedown calls being made from the White Hut to CEO's of various insurance companies.
